1991 Range Rover turbo diesel swap

I like engine swaps, but that doesnt address your initial concerns...heater core, water pump, everything other than the engine and transmission can still fail as it would in any other vehicle. And it will.

That’s a sweet option, but man so expensive.

I think brand new rebuild 6.2 with turbo, plus new nv4500 and Lt230 gonna be solid drivetrain. I guess I’ll find out.

You are very correct, I guess I was frustrated, everything happened right after another, when I went to change the water pump it had 15 bolts, all different sizes, I said to myself, this thing gotta go.

As someone who just put the front case back on a D1 an hour ago, I appreciate the sentiment!

Looks like a rad swap. My 4.0 was leaking and puking oil all over so I opened it up for an overhaul. No idea who the PO had put the last rebuild together, but not super impressed. (My machinist said the heads were ground at different heights and the three angle job on the ports all had different angles!).

Next time around I’ll hope to copy something like what you’ve got going here...

To make room for double battery setup, power steering reservoir must be relocated,
Simple aluminum bracket does the job.

Power steering pump is a direct bolt on on the 6.2,

Today more parts arrived, new oil pan, VDO boost gauge, Clutch, flywheel and the pressure plate,

Brand new rebuild NV4500 was put up today, man it wasn’t easy to move it around, 190 lb of some serious manual transmission.

Also got the fuel sending unit modified for diesel and put up.

This time I am using Rovers radiator with Ford Mustang electric fan outside
And another Honda Civic radiator with its own fans.
No room to use the original 6.2 fan clutch.

AC I am contemplating between electric or late 90s Toyota Camry setup.

I have been looking into doing either electric A/C or doing a full soft dash conversion so I can have the dual zone climate "marriage saver" setup.
What was your idea for running electrical A/C?



Also, do you have the part number on that oil pan? I need to probably get the same one, since mine came out of a HMMWV.

I never understood the purpose of the dual zome climate control,
Its just another things to go wrong on modern cars,
oil pan is out of 1993 GMC 3500 diesel truck,
Basically any 6.5 or 6.2 diesel truck had that oil pan, only Hummers came with larger oil pan that won’t work with solid axle setup,

RV electric AC setup I am still thinking ,
I’ll be looking into it more when I am done with everything and truck is running.
