I did the valve cover gasket today, looks really clean for 212k miles I think. Cleaned up the cover good and now the jeep is running a ton better

I finally broke down and bought doors. 100$ for the pair and I found a can of paint in the garage that somewhat matches till I have time to sand and paint them right

Took a little adventure Monday :) found a seasonal road, the bridge was out but there was a trail that led down the ravine and across a shallow spot

Had a nice 60 degree day. Doors have been off since yesterday. Went and saw a gentleman about some parts. 1 ton steering 410 geared axles and a cj dash are coming my way with some other things. he agreed to work with me so in 3 weeks it's all gonna be paid for and sitting in my living room perks of living alone I guess hahaha

...be prepared for poor defrosters if you get the CJ heaterassembly with the dash...
When I was running the CJ-5 I went to the YJ dash and heater assembly, in large part because of the better defroster.

...
(4.10 gears are OK for 29 to 32 inch tires; 33s, if you are willing to take the hit in street performance... for tires in the 35/36 inch range go for 4.46s or 4.88s. The absolute ccheapest way to get 4.10 gears is to get a 4 cylinder Dana 30 axle assembly out of a YJ an XJ assembly works but you need to do different spring mounts and, potentially, a few other brackets..
The existing Dana 35 is fine for tires in the 32 inch range but becomes iffy strength wise for hard abuse with 33 inch tires
The existing Dana 30 front axle is fine for 33 inch tires but could use more modern (post 1995 (XJ) large U-joint) junk yard axles if abusing 35-36 inch tires. (35s or undersize 36s are the largest that can be fitted to a CJ/YJ without huge lifts and or relatively extreme body butchery...

Enjoy!

Right right, these are 4cyl axles but the gentleman already cleaned painted and replaced a ton of the parts like the ball joints and brakes. I'm in 35s with 3.07s right now and for the steal I got (cheaper than buying 1 axles set of gears) for now they're better than where I'm at. I wont build the d35 so I'm waiting to decide if I want a super 30 8.8 combo or a set of 1 tons before I buy aftermarket gears shafts etc. I'm also having a hard time deciding if I want 35x10.5 or 37x12.5 for my next set so an 8.8 will probably come sooner than later if I get the 37s

Having been the very large tire route;
I decided to go with a tummy tuck and likely 33s on this current TJ (get the break over of 35's/36's without needing a step ladder or longer legs).
I don't do deep mud and am getting too old for the extreme wheeling.

...Be sure to measure the u-joints on your new axles then hit up the scrap yards; the strength increase for the big joint post 95 (XJ) D30 axles is worth the expense & effort, IMO...
The last disk brake Ford 8.8 limited slip 4.11 explorer axle assembly, I got from a scrap yard cost; if I recall correctly, less than $175... Had to bring a generator & grinder and cut the shackles to get it out though...

Enjoy!

The 30 already has the xj shafts in it :) and I've been watching the yards though they frown upon sparks and torches around here. The pup chewed up my couch and today's garbage day so that's going out and the jack stands are coming in. My new pile of parts are going in my living room where its warm :) I'll post pics once I get it all back to my place

The local yard actually suggested the generator and grinder; they too do not allow torches. Doesn't cost any thing to ask.

...gotta love a pup... they do get bored though.

Enjoy!

Flares came off today? So did the front trac bar. So now I'm 4 inches with 35s no tracs or sway bars and a still loose steering box Haha. Slow progress is better than no progress I guess
