We put together a 26 page presentation of just about everything you could want to know about this rig. You can download it here: https://bit.ly/2JaZa1J
By clicking the following link, you can download 54 full resolution exterior pictures as well as 35 interior pictures: https://bit.ly/2WmQ3yt

If you are interested in this vehicle, please make sure that you check these links first as they provide loads of additional information which is just too much to post here (especially the pictures). Thanks!

Please note:

  • The vehicle was legally imported into the US and registered in Tucson, AZ on May 21st, 2019. It has a clean AZ class C motorhome title with all import taxes and fees paid in full. Transfer of ownership is therefore easy and straight forward.
  • The Toyota will be sold turnkey and “expedition ready”. This not only means that the vehicle is in excellent condition without any maintenance backlog, but that the offer also includes a wide range of accessories necessary/helpful for short-term as well as long-term expeditions.
  • We will be heading back to Switzerland early August and are therefore looking to sell the vehicle around late July/early August of 2019. At that time, the car will be located in the greater Los Angeles area. But timing as well as handover location are of course negotiable.
  • Most pictures were taken in April 2019 and represent the current state of the vehicle. Please note though, that we are still travelling with it and will continue to do so until the end of our trip. Pictures show the original Swiss registration. As mentioned above, it now has a clean Arizona title and is registered there until May 2020.
  • If you are interested in our rig, we are more than happy to show you around in detail and take you out for a test drive. In case you are from the western parts of the US, coordinating this could be fairly easy as we will be travelling the western states throughout the upcoming months. Just contact us and let us know where you live and we’ll try to swing by if it is on our way.

History:
It was converted from a BJ45 troop carrier into an expedition vehicle in 2001. The previous owner had a professional cabin builder in Switzerland remove the back of the car and built a composite cabin with 1,6inch insulation based on an aluminum support frame. This process is documented in photos (scanned original photos) and the receipt (copy) from the cabin builder is available. After that, the original owner did an almost 18 month long trip along the Panamerican Highway in 2002/2003. Upon returning, extensive improvements were made to the car (external storage hatches, air ride suspension, pop top, etc. pp). The original plan was to take another trip to Africa which fell through. Hence, since 2003 the car was only used to attend Land Cruiser meetings but was neither used as a daily driver, nor as a travel vehicle. So between 2003 and 2017, hardly and miles were added to the vehicle. After our purchase in early 2017, we extensively modernized the cabin. This included remodelling the interior to make it more comfortable, installing a RV propane heater, installing a stainless steel sink with drain, additional aluminum storage boxes on the roof and the rear, a completely new electrical system including a 200+100W solar system and a 170Ah heavy duty AGM battery, dual MPPT solar and alternator charger, etc. pp and much more. Please note that this list is by no means complete, it is simply too much to list.
After our first 5 week "test trip" to Iceland in the summer of 2017, we started our 14 month adventure on the Panamerican Highway in June 2018 which will come to an end early August 2019.

Modifications:
As the pictures show, the rig is heavily modified from it’s original state. Find only the most extensive ones down below:
  • Fibreglass composite cabin installed in 2001 converting the regular troop carrier into a expedition vehicle with excellent insulation and space utilisation – receipt available
  • Turbo installed on the 3.4L engine some time in 2002/2003 by Mudrak custom cruisers
  • OME springs installed in 2011 – import papers from Specter Offroad available
  • Air ride springs installed in August 2015 – receipt available
Paint and bodywork conducted:
Pretty much everything has been worked on if you compare the stock vehicle with how it looks today. This is not a collectors car but a long distance/long term travelling expedition vehicle. Scratches, scuffs and pinstriping are inevitable. The current state of the vehicle is roughly grade B. It has minor scratches and scuffs in many locations (which are to be expected for a vehicle that has travelled so far). We had a small rust repair on the right front fender but apart from that, I would consider the car pretty much rust free (if you look hard and long enough you might certainly find a minor spot). As the support frame in the rear is made out of Aluminum and the cabin itself is made out of fibreglass, rust development anywhere else but the driver’s cab, the main frame and the axles is pretty much impossible. To our best knowledge, this car has never been involved in an accident! No major dings or dents anywhere!

Known problems:
Minor leak from the power steering servo. Everything else has always been taken care of immediately as we have been living out of the car for the past year and therefore heavily relied on it. There are tons of receipts and photo evidence available for all of the maintenance including a very thorough maintenance log which you can find at the very end of the presentation you can download from my dropbox (link at the beginning of this post). The tires have now been on the truck for 36.000 miles and will need to be replaced in about 5-10k miles.
Service records available:
Since we bought it in Feb 2017 pretty much everything is available! There are plenty of receipts and every bit of service has been recorded since then. However, as lots has been done by us, sometimes there is no paper receipt available. BUT we tried to take photos whenever we worked on the car and kept the receipts when buying spare parts, filters, oil, etc. pp. Before Feb 2017, the records are pretty much non existent. The original service record is available. The second last service was recorded in 1994 at 34.876 miles and the last one in 2003 at 92.857 miles. In between 2002/2003 the car was travelling through the Americas and from this time, no service records are available.

All information has been given to the best of our knowledge and belief. As far as the history of the vehicle before 2017 is concerned, we must rely on the previous owner's details unless photo documentation or proof of purchase is available. Errors and omissions excepted.
