We bought a house in Mulege, Baja Sur and are selling our Helga. We have build write-up for the remodel we did for you to search. Currently located in Mulege and depending on when we leave, we’re going up through Arizona snaking our way back to Wisconsin for those interested in seeing her. $95,000.
Saurer 6dm:
28,000 pounds, 12 feet high, 26 feet long. Upgraded Bosch fuel-injection pump fom 10dm for 320hp, up from standard 250hp (same engine). At 50mph, 6-8mpg depending on road conditions, 55mph, 4mpg. Top speed, about 60 mph. Around 120,000 miles on the truck. Inline six engine, two Mann oil filters, two Mann fuel filters, fuel bowl with spare filters, air dryer filter for air brakes, coolant filter, transmission filter. Exhaust brake, rear view camera and screen, 5-speed semi-automatic transmission with overdrive. In effect, a 10 speed transmission; easy to operate. Torque converter allows transmission to upshift and down shift when in higher gears. Power steering, 14r 20 tires, about 10-15K miles left on them.
All wheel drive, 70-30 split, air controled lever to switch to 50-50, and next, to lock the transfer case. Air ride seat is controlled by an ARB electric pump, not the air brake system at this point. Switch on dash to fill seat. Seat is National 2000 and has lumbar controls, but needs air on all the time. I don't use this feature, pump is too noisy. Pintle hitch in back, along with a 15,000# hitch to pull trailers or flat-tow a vehicle. Pintle hitch still operational. Hitch in front as well. Braided steel towing 'rope', and solid pintle bar included.
Truck is based on 24v system for both the engine and the cabin. Two starter batteries, purchased February of 2017.
Electrical system:
Cabin has 24v, 220v, and 110v. Four Lifeline AGM 4D batteries, totalling 420 amp hours, in series for 24v. Space available to add two more batteries if needed. Iota 24v battery charger hard-wired to batteries, plugs into garage receptacle when on genrator or shore power. Swiss battery charger utilized when plugged into 220v shore power. 4000w generator, and shore power 30amp cord run through an Isola Basics 4000 voltage regulator (bought in Mexico), then to a Square D 70amp box with two 15amp circuits, and one 30amp circuit. 110v outlets installed in cabin for this setup.
Victron Phoenix 24-220v 1600 watt inverter powers the Euro equipment in cabin, and one outlet on outside of cabin. The latter is used for the 220v water pump when transferring water from outdoor water tank to the indoor tank. Several 220v Euro outlets in cabin are available. Samlex 2000 watt 24-110v inverter powers 110v outlets installed in cabin and on outside of cabin. The current flows to a second Square D box with four 15amp breakers. LED lights are utilized throughout the cabin.
Four solar panels are riveted to the roof, two original 24v panels in parallel, and two 12v new panels in series, then in parallel with the other two. 640 watts of power.
Water:
50 gallon internal tank with water pump. External tank, 38 gallons, transferred as mentioned, via Euro water pump and an assortment of hoses and fittings. Has worked very well here in Baja at the Aqua Purificados, when they are able to connect via a hose! Otherwise, they'll fill 5 gallon jugs, and you stick your hose in the jug, and several jugs later, it's full! Two showers, one, at the base of the door is a drain pan, and outside, an aluminum shower curtain hoop is attached to passenger side of the cabin. There is a second shower hose attachment for this. The Splendide washer/dryer uses 17 gallons of water, so a city/water valve on the outside of the cabin should be installed to utilize water from a stream, lake, or RV park for cold water washes. Two sinks, the Thetford Cassette Toilet has a manual plunger to flush the toilet. On the side is a door to fill that system with water. Grey water tank slung between the rear frame rails. Unsure at the moment the capacity.
Cabin:
The cabin is a German Army box, built in 1982, all aluminum, with 2" studs and crossmembers. The inner and outer aluminum skin is riveted to the inner structure. The inside length was 13 feet when we bought it, and we had a company add 29" to fit the toilet, washing machine, cabinets for the electrical panels, and an extended counter. Height is approximetely 6 feet 1 inch. Inside width is about 6 feet 5 inches. The box is bolted to an aluminum frame which is bolted to the chassis. No cracks in box from chassis flex. The box can be lifted, as there are lift points on all four corners, and placed on a different truck if need be. This is the second truck for the box. On top five bar aluminum sheeting forms the roof, the four solar panels are riveted to the roof.
