Ultra rare SWB Mercedes Gwagen with lockers front and rear. The frame and mechanicals are pretty much perfect except 2nd gear sync. is worn and it will bump if you shift fast.

The bad is the rust damage on the body. Some past owner spent a lot on trying to save the body by replacing body panels. The common rear tail-light area is all newer steel and the windshield frame is good. The bad parts are mostly underneath and in random spots, like most all these old Gwagens have. I had planned to take the body off and have it media blasted, etc.. but I can't afford it anymore. I was never in a rush to do it since the rust isn't spreading and it's perfectly functional as-is. The spots were treated long ago and I occasionally spray trouble spots over again to make sure. The floors are fine and there's no holes but under the driver's floor there a spot that needs a new piece welded in at some point, near the body mount. The right front inner fender piece near the frame mount needs to be replaced which isnt a big deal. Theres a place on the psng. rear fender that needs patched. Other spots need attention too if you want it perfect but those are the main ones I can think of. The paint job isnt too great but works as a 4x4. The sunroof is crap. They sealed it up and it's rust-free around it but it's not functional.

The odometer stopped working. The rear wiper and wiper fluid pump are the two things that don't work. I never need them in SoCal so never bothered. Everything else works that I can think of.

Mileage is around 150K. I have some papers showing past work that matched the mileage estimate and the motor came from an SD Merc. car with about 150k and was installed by Collie Autoworks before I got it.

Since its an original diesel '79, it makes it smog exempt in Ca.. Any other grey market G has to go to a lab for about $9500 to get a title in Ca.. I figure the truck is worth about $12k since it had the rust issues and needs a body-off, if you want it to be all pretty, and the bumper is worth about $2000 with the like-new winch, new plastic fuel tank upgrade is about $2500 and then I'm adding value for the legal CA. title to arrive at the price.

PM me if interested and I can discuss it more and take more pics of the bad spots. I may not check the forum for a while. Price is firm. The value is very fair in my opinion. I don't need to sell so please, no low-ball offers. Thanks.

This is ideal for a guy who knows how to work on his own 4x4 and is used to older rigs (this G is 40!) and military 4x4's since these are not fast and top out at about 60-65.
