nostalgia,yup.

havent messed myself with the bullet proof reliability of the 4.0..

i thought you needed a stroker for decent upgrade in power/torque.

Not so much...a stroker definitely puts it way lower inn the powerband though. Some minor porting, well actually cleaning up on the head and a slight compression bump, and advancing the cam..or getting a 96-99 cam and advancing it if you didn't get lucky with that year already & the mopar/victor reinz .043 head gasket will get you going decently, and more mileage to boot. I actually have a 4.2l mini stroker that's more or less exactly what's listed here with a .060 over and .090 more stroke. Advancing he cams free horsepower to any rebuild, even with the older 87-95 cam advance it 4*...the 96-99 is just better. I also threw 1.7yella Tera roller rockers. You wouldn't believe how rough stock heads are though. Mine was a 94 year cast, had a bb size casting flaw in a oil passage. That I knocked free by scratching it..literally. The ports were like herculiner rough, I only used a carbide bur to clean things up and went over light with 120/320 on the intake/exhaust. Much better...no real "porting" just cleaned and gasket matched and shaped the valve guide a bit.

Sorry to thread jack.

Well, i gone and done it, swapped the 33's to the new (old) rims.

Can you say 'vintage'???

With the good tires on there I went out and got the truck up to 65 real quick on a nice stretch of road (still dont have shocks). No noticable vibes in the driveline, it actually seems to vibe LESS on deceleration than before.

Woohoo!

Digging the stock/clean/sleeper look!

1. Why all this about L-6 engines?
2. Campy restomod wins.

3. He's building according to his desires, not ours. :smiley_drive:

itd oksy, my girlfriend doesnt like them either, and about 3 other people on the internet agree with you.

Its alright, not everybody is born with enough taste to appreciate the clean, stock, nostalgic look of the white steelies and dog dishes. :smiley_drive: hahaha.

"black steelies! black bumpers! black tint! smoked lenses! bigger meats! More lights! Winch! Rocker guards! Tire carrier! GO GO MORE MORE MORE!" seems to be the mentality these days with most 4x's! Guys, jsut because they sell it at 4 wheel parts doesnt mean you need to put it on your jeep, hahahahahaha. I kid I kid.

Anyway, back to updates:

Chopped off the old shock brackets:

Made 2 of these lil things:

welded them up:

This gained me a few inches of clearance under the axle, which never hurt anybody. Except for me, because my shocks were way too long and didnt fit, so my buddy gave me a set of shorter skyjackers, but they are still too long and I only have about 1.5" of travel.

So, i'm ordering a short set of skyjacker Hydro's, with a 12" collapsed length which will give me a few extra inches of travel. My old shocks only had about 2.5" travel to begin wich, which was never an issue seeing as my tires hit my fenders after about 1" of movement haha.

Also, with the new narrow rims that have less back spacing, my tires are sucked way in, and i have at least another 1" between the tire and the fender now which is great. Tires look way more narrow in person, and the stance is more narrow as well. I'm diggin' it so far.

Ao i took her up on the highway and it seemed totally fine for a minute, then started vibrating at 65mph, not bad, but it was there. I also heard a crazy noise.

Turns out my exhaust shifted back over and was barely touching the driveshaft, which was the noise. I wasnt sure if that was causing the vibes though. I adjusted it by hand until i can re-weld it, and took her back on the highway. I was cruising at 65-70 with no noticeable vibes until i really got on the pedal, and it started to vibrate, but also started ringing which signified that the exhaust was hitting the shaft. Hopefully the vibes are a result of that, it seems to be that way.

So, to do list for the rear:
-Redo brake lines.
-Decide if I want to, or can, run my emergency brake lines.
-Pull the axles out and check bearings, possibly replace.
-new shocks
-move exhaust another 1/2" over.

Yeah! Don't listen to 'em your rig is the *******. It seems like so many people open 3 credit lines to make their rig look like the ones on CRAWL and then they don't even take them out, or worse don't know how to wheel them right and wreck them.

its funny, my girl still hates the white steelies, though she warmed up a little once they had the dog dishes on.

Anyway, ball joints should be in this weekend, and i should be able to get the axle back together. Still need new rotors and hubs before everything can even be assembled 100%. Also new wheel studs, forgot about them!
