Awesome trip report. More to explore in my own state!! When you went to Missoula you should have popped over to the Garnet ghost town. You can actually still go in the three story hotel there.

Question: It doesn't look like that river could float that big dredge. How did they do it?
Basically they are digging their own pond as they are dredging. It really wasn't any bigger than what you see in the pictures, except the creek would be flowing around it providing the dredge with water to float it and wash the tailings.

Really beautiful. Not crowded even in summer? Our neighbor just returned from Yellowstone and it was lightly crowded.
