The ingredients:

1979 Chev Suburban
Me
Wife
3 kids ages: 9, 7, 2
Dog.

The plan:

It was an “ish” plan.....
Leave Alberta (just north of Calgary)
Drive east.
Come home eventually.

En-route we came up with this insane idea to drive around small towns in Manitoba.... buy OLDEST boat we could see sitting in someone’s yard..... go fishing for Walleye at every little backwoods lake we could find.

Ended up renting a off grid log cabin that was built in 1921 which had been taken apart, repaired and rebuilt.

5095 total kilometres driven.

Old Burban never skipped a beat, the heater core did start leaking, but I just took the line off and looped it back to the engine.

Even managed 12 mpg once.
With a tailwind.....
Going downhill.....

Few more

Oh.... boat ended up being a 1971 Starcraft 12 foot aluminum with a 3.5hp Eska motor.

The boat leaked..... and the motor leaked gas..... after a trip to the hardware store we got both leaks all fixed up and ran it every day for 10 days.... burned 5.5 litres of gas.0F5A35F3-0EF8-472B-815F-CA9BB6C2390D.jpeg5C1C7768-475C-45C4-B51F-277EFD307D51.jpeg4833F5B6-3F6F-408B-BC39-95FA518DA976.jpegD8F7E0D1-F37A-48EE-8F81-756AA77530F4.jpeg8E560BA5-29FB-4066-977C-63AD4F35DF39.jpegEA638B9C-1F6A-4DE1-AD8C-C2F3886F0350.jpegFF72922E-DFB1-4DC5-AC00-A6E580BD3BDD.jpeg2FC20F8E-043A-429B-A7F3-D6AA6DA58C0F.jpegB0871D27-2F2A-4EEC-8A87-F2545154239F.jpeg1AE0621D-80BE-4B80-B028-22F95D66BA6A.jpeg

Nice old Burban! Nice skiff! Nice old outboard! Nice walleye!

I miss my old '84 Burban and my old '90 Burban.

Nice! Makes me miss my old diesel Burbs 84&95. I had the same heater core problem on both!

That's very cool. Without question the best memories from my youth are the ones from the adventures and road trips our parents took us on. Can't ever put a price on that. Good job, my hat is off to you.
