    1983 Toyota 4X4 Chinook Build

This overturned vehicle in Payson AZ looks familiar, the color, bumper, Chinook, wheels and tires. I hope everyone is alright. Found the photo on FB, people are saying that two people are hospitalized.

Learn me about the 6.9/7.3 idi motors

I have owned both a few I6 300 CI carbed trucks and the 4.9L Fuel injected ones. I prefer the carbed versions, the FI ones have issues with selector valves and TFI ignition modules heating up and stopping spark. The carbed versions IMHO are the most reliable gasoline engines ever made, I never...

My 66 Unimog 404 Cartography Truck

Nope, early 2016 I wanted a bathroom; the company I worked for went corporate so I "upgraded", left the company and went on a crazy adventure in LA. :Wow1:. But that is another thread and another story.

My 66 Unimog 404 Cartography Truck

Made a little intro video on what it is like to live in a Mog. More soon! It is starting to get cold out, the Unimog retains heat well going to try one of those 12V heaters but looking for a more permanent and electrically based solution.

    My Dodge Dakota, the "Comvee"

Haha I know right? probably why I haven't been pulled over yet, I keep them on when it gets dusk out. They use the same headlamps in Saturns, Cameros etc so they are flooding the yards down here in AZ.

    My Dodge Dakota, the "Comvee"

I spend all of my time in the Unimog, I could imagine that it is too annoying poping up the camper every day haha. The headlamps are hidden in the grille, I designed the entire front end to be street legal here in Arizona haha! The Equipment section of ARS covers motor vehicle equipment, I...

My 66 Unimog 404 Cartography Truck

Excellent, thank you, looks like a great solution! Now I just have to figure out a spare tire carrier.

My 66 Unimog 404 Cartography Truck

Dismounting and mounting Unimog tires sucks! And I found another, like new non-dryrotted 11.00R20 on the Epay! Since I live near truck, commercial tire and heavy equipment places I went to three shops looking for someone to mount my spare. Literally all of them turned me away, "too old of...

    My Dodge Dakota, the "Comvee"

Well, felt like I should give it a new paintjob. It has been five years and the old one was faded to another color and chalky. And I kinda like the tumbler from batman soo..... I started with the camper Then sanded the rest of the truck, masked off the cab, hood, fenders etc and repainted it...

    My Dodge Dakota, the "Comvee"

No clue yet, I just run without one for now, but I want to do a swing down drivers side spare tire carrier in the near future. I got the engine cage completed, it is asymmetrical, the drivers side captures the coilover in a hoop that allows the coilover to articulate to the drivers side as the...

My 66 Unimog 404 Cartography Truck

No cab lift, they do rub on crazy obstacles but it does not annoy me and has not done any mechanical damage. however, this just happened! it still holds air but the 11.00R20's look fine but are seriously dryrotted! there is a reason why used "new" military tires are cheap used military tires...

    My Dodge Dakota, the "Comvee"

So I have been making a little progress! I bought some 1.75" .125" thick DOM and and started bending tube to fit the 18" coil-overs in. The passenger side was easy, I like it, well triangulated and stuff. I wanted to do the conventional engine cage that wraps toward the back firewall but the...

My 66 Unimog 404 Cartography Truck

So I got a trailer! 14K capacity and threw some steel sidewall load rage G tires on it, the mog tows great! The trailer opens up a new range of possibilities for Unimog exploration. And the new Tow RIG! scored it for $1600! LLY Duramax that was thought to be dead but only needed a fuel filter...

My 66 Unimog 404 Cartography Truck

Last fill up I did 180 miles of in town, highway and offroad and used 22 gallons of fuel from fuel up to fuel up so I am getting ~8.18 MPG with the mog, it is thirsty but worth it! I ditched the 4000 W honda generator that ran off the fuel tank (off the old swingfier heater line) and now using a...

    My Dodge Dakota, the "Comvee"

The Dakota is getting some life upgrades, removed the coiltowers and cleaning the frame in preparation of an engine cage and 18" king coilovers.

The alternator also charges a deep cycle RV battery that runs the pump, box lights and a small power inverter. I strapped the battery down in an unused sidepanel. Here is the setup, still needs to be fixed up, a work in progress but it works great! I cut the wall mount for the TV on a waterjet...

My 66 Unimog 404 Cartography Truck

So alot of folks convert the 24V generator system to 12V, but I figure it would be good to have both. I chose to mount the alternator in the old air compressor location, the alternator is a 64amp chevy 10si alternator, very common and very cheap at $29. The air compressor location is great, but...

My 66 Unimog 404 Cartography Truck

Some cows in the road at the exit of Box Canyon. This poor guy was covered in cholla, but would not let me approach him. There is re-purposed mining equipment being used for ranching all over the place. I drove around, saw a few sights, went to the now closed down Martinez Canyon entrance...

My 66 Unimog 404 Cartography Truck

So after I got the hubs all done, I put in some new tranny fluid (redline MTL), a trans temp gauge (extremely important) and felt confident enough to take the Unimog on it's first real journey of around ~300 miles. This is also my first solo trip, just the mog and I. It is funny driving really...
