Best privacy tent/shower/toilet enclosure? Best compact "toilet" for WAG bags?

Do you camp alone? How big is your tent? I use a 5-gallon bucket with a screw-on lid and, believe it or not, I use it in my tent. If you do it right it works fine. Line the bucket with a plastic grocery store bag and put in some sawdust. Dispose of the bag as soon as you can. Store the bucket...

    The Boxio camp toilet?

I use a bucket toilet and have a simple way to keep liquid and solid separate. First, pee outdoors whenever possible so the bucket stays cleaner. Then I put a couple of inches of pine pellets in the bottom of the bucket. Those are very odor free, such that I can keep the bucket in my tent with...

    Alternative fuels for small firepit?

I have a UCO Flatpack. Sawing and splitting small-size wood (8" and 12" long) is laborious. Would either of these work?: (1) Sawdust bricks: Can they be split smaller? Do they burn fast or slow? (2) According to my local Tractor Supply, you can burn pine bedding pellets in a camping stove. But...

    Folding saw

How about this $20 Dewalt camper's hatchet? https://www.homedepot.com/p/DEWALT-20-oz-Campers-Hatchet-DWHT56031/304384101 As a reminder, I posted last year that I wasn't satisfied with the Fiskers X7 hatchet despite the positive reviews, but most here disagreed with my take on this...

    Folding saw

The Corona 10" razor tooth would seem to make the most sense for my budget. Thanks. Now how about a lightweight hatchet for splitting these small pieces?

    Folding saw

I'm looking for a folding saw (pruning type). I know this has been discussed at length here, but the search function won't search for "folding saws." Would like to hear suggestions for affordable folding saws (under $30) for cutting wood up to about 4". I have a very small UCO fire pit that...

    Removing odor after cleaning knife

Well, the first step is to not clean your knife with toxic substances, as I did. Once you've done that and the substance seeps into the innards and into the plastic, then you have a dilemma.

    Removing odor after cleaning knife

About 15-20 years old. I cleaned all 3 of my Swiss Army Knives today, all around the same age, and concluded that you really have to do this on a regular basis. Cleaning and oiling helped a fair amount but didn't restore them to the original easy opening and that satisfying snap when they close.

    Removing odor after cleaning knife

Thanks for all these great ideas. I removed the scales as suggested and went through the whole process again: hot water, soap, scrubbed with toothpaste, baking soda and vinegar. What got rid of the odor in the end was mouthwash! I oiled the hinges with mineral oil since this is a food knife. At...

    Removing odor after cleaning knife

I used some petroleum and chemical products to loosen up the blades of my Swiss Army knife and now I can't get the odor off it. I use it for food preparation. I tried air drying, soap, vinegar, and baking soda. None of those worked. Any other ideas? By the way, I tried a variety of products to...

    Solid human waste disposal/containment?

Yes, this is controversial. I read a lot about this and there are good arguments on both sides. In my state it's not illegal and I do it, mainly in the dumpster at campgrounds, knowing that it will be picked up by a truck and people won't be exposed to it. If the dumpster is full of dirty...

    Solid human waste disposal/containment?

I don't think that Walmart thing is necessary. A 5-gallon bucket with a screw-on lid works just as well. I find that it doesn't even need a special seat; the rim of the screw-on lid isn't sharp. Nor are special bags necessary; grocery store bags are fine. The key for me is sawdust. Put some in...

    Stronger tarp than Kelty Noah?

The Kelty Noah’s tarp is 68D poly with an 800 mm coating. A 12 x 12 is $75. I have a Unigear tarp from Amazon. It’s 210D oxford with a 3000 mm coating, 10 x 13 for $42 including lines and stakes. So stronger, more waterproof, and cheaper than the Kelty. I love the Weanas tarp poles, out of...

    Peg Hammer Options?

I've had the hammer I linked for several years. It has held up very well. I bought it based on the great reviews and have not been disappointed.

    Peg Hammer Options?

It can be very hard to put drive stakes into a campsite pad that consists of a deep layer of stones covered with a thin layer of soil. I like this: It's 3 tools in one: hammer, stake puller, and digger. The digger is effective for removing stones. I keep this tool in my car to break the window...

    Electric chainsaw for specific purpose

Since I first started this thread, there has been a change in my situation. I got an EGO battery-powered lawnmower and love it! My goal now is to start collecting wood from a nearby national forest. I would only be cutting a couple of bushels each time I pass through the forest. Up to about 6"...

    Fiskers X7 hatchet: NO!

Correct, I bought it to split kinding from wood up to about 4" in diameter. I found it really ineffective for that purpose. Sure, I could get a heavier hatchet or axe, but shouldn't any hatchet, regardless of size, be able to split dry 4" wood? If It can't handle wood that size, what's it good...
