Looking for advice after multiple flats on Cooper AT3's with Discovery 4

Hi, I have the same tires in P265/70/16 (stock size) on a stock 2003 4runner. I got a front flat right in the tread block going about 15 MPH on a pretty tame forest service road in Northern California. I posted someone's photo to give an idea of how the conditions were. The air was hissing out...

    Columbus tent, more questions

Hi Mike, thanks for the tips. I think I spoke to you on the phone a week or two ago when I ordered the mounting kit. I'll try it out in a few days and see if I can make sense of it with some more time/practice. Thanks again guys.

    Columbus tent, more questions

I'll look at the back flap again. Do you think I could just tie the 2 rubber bands together with some cord to make the X? I don't think mine have the clips anymore.

    Columbus tent, more questions

Hi guys, so I bought an older columbus tent off craigslist. I have some questions if someone would be nice enough to answer: 1) I noticed there are 2 rubber bands per side sewn into the fabric; what are these for? 2) When I want to close the tent, does it matter where/how I position the pillows...

need noob explanation how to mount RTT to factory rails

Hi guys, I just bought an older Columbus RTT off craigslist. From what I can tell from their website, the newer models have the attachment points towards the outside of the unit and they mount with U bolts. Mine has 2 channels near the middle of the base with sliding bolt studs sticking out. I...

Building sliders, where to locate main rail?

Hi guys, so I'm building some sliders out of 2x2" .120 wall tubing for my 2003 4runner. I'm not a rock crawler, but I'd like them for a just in case moment. I'm not sure exactly where I should put the main tube of the sliders relative to the body, both how far out from the frame and how high up...

Blocking windows of SUV while sleeping inside?

Hi, what are you guys using to cover your windows while you sleep inside? I don't like the idea of random creeps being able to watch me while I sleep  and I'd like something that can be put on/removed easily. Thanks!

    Window screens...

Overseas, I've seen something that are like a see-through elastic mesh sock you pull over the top of the door. You can still close the door and drive around with your windows up or down. Not sure what they're called or where you could buy one.

4runner shopping dilema (overpriced 3rd gens, low mpg v8 4th, lexus?)

yea I bought a v8. The +05 have 30 more hp due to VVT, but honestly I rarely drive around with the pedal floored to hit those higher rpms anyway. I'd be nice, but I'm not going to pass up a deal and pay a bunch more money just to have it.

4runner shopping dilema (overpriced 3rd gens, low mpg v8 4th, lexus?)

yea I'd say the price is fair, but according to the rest of the market it's a smoking deal. I'm staring right now at a lot of others for sale with 110-120k miles with asking prices of 12-14k. The guy is claiming he changed the belt himself, so hopefully the dealer inspection can tell if that's true?

4runner shopping dilema (overpriced 3rd gens, low mpg v8 4th, lexus?)

Thanks guys, I found an 03 4runner v8 with 130k for 8500. I'm buying it tomorrow if the Toyota dealer doesn't find any problems.

4runner shopping dilema (overpriced 3rd gens, low mpg v8 4th, lexus?)

Hi thanks for the responses. I'm actually moving back to California or I'd be looking at something diesel here in Chile. As far as the V6 HG, I'll be buying something from the earlier years with +100k, its a definite concern. I wish they were more reliable because I'd prefer the v6 over the v8.

4runner shopping dilema (overpriced 3rd gens, low mpg v8 4th, lexus?)

Hi, so I'm shopping for a 4runner. I used to have a 2001 that I liked a lot. Since I've been looking, it seems like the prices for a decent 3rd gen are crazy high now. I paid 9k for an 01 with 100k, and now that same car would be probably 12k. Since the 3rd gens are overpriced, I've been...

    Chile

Hey I'm still in Chile but haven't been on any adventures yet. Thinking about buying a cheap diesel suzuki vitara or similar since the price of diesel here is so much cheaper than gasoline.

    Chile

Hi jpvm, I've just moved from California to Santiago for work and I was hoping you could answer a few questions. Besides Santiago and Valpo, I've visited Puren and Pucon via bus/rental car. The question I have for you is about what's available close to Santiago. By close, I mean someone with a...
