    2000 Mercury Mountaineer Build

That's Photobucket, not you. Any pictures anywhere on the internet hosted by them up until a couple of months ago don't work anymore unless the account owner pays $400. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    2000 Mercury Mountaineer Build

Thought I'd report back in here, the TTB Mountaineer is pretty much complete for now. Took it for its maiden voyage on the Rubicon from Tahoe to the springs. Helluva way to test out a project this big, but had a blast. Broke a D44 outer shaft right before getting to camp at the springs and a hub...

    2000 Mercury Mountaineer Build

Sat the truck down on the ground yesterday finally! A couple of weeks ago I redid the cross brace in a simpler design. Yesterday I finished plating in the bump stops and mounted limit straps on one side, and I'll do the other side today. I'm not sure I have the optimal spring rates right now...

Let's face reality, it will never get finished period. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    2000 Mercury Mountaineer Build

Thanks, actually I live in Oakland now but the truck is down in Santa Cruz for now. My goal right now is to get it finished enough to take on a trip mid-late April. Who knows whether I'll actually make that, but I do know that once it's on the road I'll be driving and enjoying it a lot. Sent...

    2000 Mercury Mountaineer Build

Ceramic coated my old headers and installed them again, hoping to have better luck with them and the heat they put off. I have shock hoops 95% completed and am working on the cross brace over the engine now. Waiting on my second pair of shocks so I used both coilovers to build off of...

    2000 Mercury Mountaineer Build

Modified my pitman arm today. Drilled out the taper to 3/4" and sleeved it with tubing so I can run a 5/8" bolt. Then double sheared the heim joints and plated it all in. I'm fairly new to TIG welding so I'm loving how I'm finally seeing real improvement being made and being able to actually...

    2000 Mercury Mountaineer Build

Setup swing steering this weekend. Still need to double shear the pitman arm and set up the hydraulic assist ram. Double sheared the knuckles And added an overlay plate to strengthen the radius arm mounts on the back of the beams, and a place for the hydraulic bumpstops to land...

    2000 Mercury Mountaineer Build

After a lot of test-fitting this what I ended up with remaining from the original TTB crossmember. Looking back now I could probably have saved a little more of it. I have the radius arms built and did a bunch of plating on the beams, in addition to welding in the uniballs. Crossmember...

    1997 Explorer Build

Your Explorer has turned out really nice! I know I've seen it on Explorer Forum but don't think I kept up with the build. And I might have to grab one of those ARB drawers for mine eventually, looks like a much better solution than what I've been using.

    2000 Mercury Mountaineer Build

Thanks for the compliments. Spent most of Saturday resealing my steering box and drilling and tapping it for hydro-assist. I just plugged the ports for now and will tackle that later. Also finished up a bunch of welding. Today got the crossmember in its final position and tacked into place...

    2000 Mercury Mountaineer Build

Going well so far: Dual sump Mustang oil pan is in (not sure I like the green that the previous owner painted it), and I notched the inside of the frame and inset the steering box for clearance for hydro-assist lines. Crossmember is close to ready for final installation. A few more...

    2000 Mercury Mountaineer Build

This was either a really good idea or a really bad idea. No turning back now:

    2000 Mercury Mountaineer Build

A lot of people on here seem to share other projects they're working on as well, so I figured some might like this one too. I'm working on a custom roof rack for a friend's Cherokee, mostly designed by him but I'm modeling it in Solidworks to easily figure out exactly how I'll build it. We're...

    2000 Mercury Mountaineer Build

Trans crossmember done! First I loosely assembled the new front end so I could get an idea of where the driveshaft will be. Bolted up the front driveshaft and made the crossmember to have clearance at max u-joint angle. Also have the radius arm brackets welded on.

    2000 Mercury Mountaineer Build

Finally making some progress on this thing! Got the 4wd 4r70w transmission swapped in and then the BW4406 manual t-case. Had to tear out the front half of the interior to cut a hole in the floor for the shifter, which took way longer than expected. That center console has what seems like 700...

    2000 Mercury Mountaineer Build

Finally got the truck in the shop for surgery, and was able to get the stock transmission out this weekend. Next steps are installing a shift kit in the new trans, replace the rear main seal for a 3rd time, then install the transmission and transfer case, new rear driveshaft, and then build new...

    2000 Mercury Mountaineer Build

Ah got it, ya maybe I did skip over that part now that you mention it. I ended up picking up a friend's D35/D44 hybrid beam setup built by Solo Motorsports years ago. 4.5" extended, cut and turned, plated/trussed/TIG welded, sleeved axle shafts, and a 4.56 geared and locked 3rd member for an...

    2000 Mercury Mountaineer Build

With aspirations of being more prepared for trail repairs, I made this access panel under the rear bench seat for easily replacing a fuel pump when the stocker eventually dies. Now I guess I should add a spare fuel pump to the parts bin in the truck haha. Did nothing else to the truck...
