From looking at Sean's profile (P3 SeanIT72), it does look like his truck - I never got out with him when I lived close but he was plenty friendly on email (email listed on P3) so it might be worth it to try him. Maybe there is more to the story ... Glad Ben popped up with some good info ...

As far as I know form the question of "alternator snorkels" arising on several forums, there is no "water proof" or sealed alternator setup. The alternator snorkel is for getting cool air down to the alternator. The snorkel directs air to the back of the alternator. The front is open ...

Great looking truck! I have found that long drives in the 1980 truck are not hugely different then long drives in the 2002 truck as far as the ride ... Sure noise level and ambient engine heat might be more noticeable in the older trucks, but as you say, it is a 30 year old vehicle ...

In the US we can only get the GL with 320 Bluetec and no locking Diffs. Look forward to someone else offering you a useful answer, but here unfortunately MB only sees the GL as a grocery getter ... :coffee:

That is worth a ton ... The SWB has some value in uniqueness - I guess the Cabrios have historically held the highest value. Wish there were a data base of sales ...

Scott: Unless you just want the basics of a 460, a 2002 MBUSA truck will likely be less expensive in the long run then restoring a 460 to similar condition. By the time I get my 1980 280GE SWB in the condition I would like it, I would guess I will have more in it than what I could sell '02...
