    HEMA Explorer North America

Just so everyone knows, Hema finally released the long awaited UI update so it works OK with iOS 11 now. They also added a few map layers. If you're a Hema NA user, I created a FB group so we can discuss things too =) http://hema.li/fbgroup

    HEMA Explorer North America

Any idea which layers you were trying to download? Some of the layers have higher detail than others.

    HEMA Explorer North America

That's understandable. I think for those that have a specific need/desire to share & build a community, Hema Explorer is a great option.

    HEMA Explorer North America

Thanks for your comments. Rest assured that the app isn't abandoned. After working with Hema for the past 3+ years I've learned that the culture of updating an app very often here in the US doesn't always apply in other countries. Whether we like it or not (I personally do not), the NA market is...

    Question about gaia app

Pending the release of iOS 11 (which could cause another bug), Bluetooth GPS works fine in iOS 10 =)

    HEMA Explorer North America

They haven't abandoned the market, but right now their small team has to focus on AU priorities. Not my favorite idea but I understand it. Android works fine on most hardware, with a few minor bugs that don't stop it from functioning. iOS is more stable and doesn't 'need' an update. There are...

My journey to a GPS Solution

That's a very good point. Generally I don't download that large of a section, I just wanted to see if it was possible =) I wish we could download the entire state with 1 click, similar to how we can download the Hema US Road Atlas in sections, that way it's a download & forget thing. Most map...

who is using a real gps vs a tablet

I understand the idea of a leaving breathing system, and I think it's admirable. Case in point though... Chinaman Gulch, Colorado. This is the test I run on ever map layer I see, and so far no one has all the data with appropriate metadata from the managing authorities. Chinaman Gulch...

Also...the new USGS Topo Map is now in the App & cloud:

What maps are you using in your mapping app?

I really love the new USGS topo layer. Modern, up to date information in the classic USGS Topo look. The Hema App supports it right out of the box with no additional $$ =)

My journey to a GPS Solution

I don't know about others, but with Hema I downloaded the entire state of Colorado in 2 different map forms to my device, down to Zoom level 14. Took 4-5GB and about 5 hours, but it worked. =)

who is using a real gps vs a tablet

I'm not trying to degrade anyone, so I apologize if it came across that way. The reality is that in my personal experience, people tend to leave poor reviews when they're upset, and don't always explore other options before doing so. With respect to the 'offline map problem' that has never been...

who is using a real gps vs a tablet

Most of the reviews are from people who tried the app prior to the December 2016 update, and those that don't really know how to use it. I've used Hema Explorer on over 2,500 miles of off-pavement travel with offline maps and no problems. The trick that no one knows (I just greated a tutorial...

My journey to a GPS Solution

Maybe I'm not using BCN properly, but I find the UI annoying. Also, is there a way to sync my tracks, photos, waypoints without exporting? Also, Also, can I organize all my tracks, waypoints, and photos into folders for a specific trip?

    iPad for Nav

Not sure if you're aware that Gaia now requires a subscription to use their new app. Plenty of features but it's not a one-time purchase. I've downloaded LeadNav but haven't used it much since I'm not a Baja racer.

    Motion X + Garmin 64S + IPad wifi?

Check out this app to see if your GPS data is coming in: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/mytracks-the-gps-logger/id358697908?mt=8 Most good mapping apps have a way to look at your current satellite status, so that could help too.
