Do you feel the need to be unarmed and defensless while camping?

Figured I would restate the question with the opposite agenda.

    1 person tent

After being inundated with tents in the big thread I still find it a mess to figure out, so maybe this will narrow it down for me. My son needs a small, one-person tent for ocaissional scouting trips. While I usually prefer to get good stuff I dont think this warrants a big expenditure, and...

    Hub leaks

S2a/109, mile marker hubs I am not well versed in the maint of this vehicle (yet). The front wheel hubs are leaking oil, spraying out over the wheel (outer side). These hubs were previously heavily covered with coagulated oil/grease, which I scraped off. There appears to be no leaking at all...

    Rattlesnake?

Anybody have prep recipes? How to debone? Lots of different, conflicting methods on the net. I dont want to be picking little bones out of my throat when eating, like fish. And then, cooking preferences? Pan fry, breaded, shake and bake, soak in buttermilk?

    Vehicular Fluids

Problem; store/transport motor oil, coolant, brake fluid, p/s fluid etc. Carried in a trailer that will be airborne, banging and shaking, wedged in with other items subject to similar abuse. Needs to be leakproof, unbreakable, puncture resistant, crush and abrasion resistant. OEM containers...

    Series front grills, whats up?

I know nothing of the various model differences. The trucks with the headlights in the radiator grill (series 1?) vs the headlights in the wings (series ll?). Now I see some that have both. Whats up with that? Is it a personal mod? Can you fit the radiator grill w/lights panel on the later...

    Series IIa

Let me start off with two items; I know nothing about LR. I dont much care for questions like this. Noticed a 70 series IIa for sale and asked a few questions. Two door, 109, no major mechanical issues, tropical roof, original paint (poor), dents and dings, interior shot, rubber seals shot...

    Zodi products

So I am researching water heaters/showers. Zodi seems to have a good rep around here, but... I found a single propane burner shower, model 6187, at my BX for what looks like a good price. Cross-checking their website yields no 6187, but a 6185 and 6189. The descriptions are identical, the...

    Rubber Bowls?

Some while back there was a link to a business that sold silicon rubber bowls. IIRC, it was not a dishware company, so I think a general search wont work. Anybody have the link/info? Thanks

    Toilet/shower tent?

I have a PETT, been just setting up away from camp but need to consider privacy tent. These all generally look the same but what I dont see is the difference in price/quality. I see them new from $30-$100. Thats a big spread. Why do I want the $100 brand? Also, for shower use, can you just...

    Aprs

To branch off a previous thread, one of the advantages of Ham vs CB is APRS. Yes, it looks very interesting as a way to keep track of your group. Many times we will send a pathfinder out ahead, or a side road to check the route. Ability to track would be nice. But in most cases, all the...

    Remote, Handheld

Baja Peninsula, remote, rugged terrain, no repeaters available, non line-of-sight, need 50 miles (75 is better). Mex cell phones must be registered to mex resident, may not have coverage in mountains. Sat phones must be run on a schedule. Any recommendations for handheld use?

    Book Rec

At the risk of reigniting the threads on dangerous things, I am reading a book that seems as though folks here may enjoy; ten ways to destroy the imagination of your child Anthony Esolen A backwards look at the things our society does that contribute to the, well, metro-child. Example; never...

    Windproof/Stormproof Lighters

These are the propane lighters that are supposed to run in 80mph winds and burn 2000 degrees. Having misplaced an old one I am researching a purchase. Seems they run from $5 to $85. Comments range from "great" to "they dont run above 8500'" and trouble lighting. Brunton, Windmill are higher...

trailer brake controller, the rest of the story

As an adjunct query to this thread, what exactly are you controlling? IOW, The electronic controller tells the trailer brakes when (and I think) how much to brake. I assume the medium being controlled is electro-mechanical? Some sort of electrical device is then mechanically moving something...

    more laptop Qs

Having some problems getting a straight answer to this. The battery is rated at 11.1v/6.6Ah and the power pack/charger is rated at 15.6v/5a. I am trying to figure how to power in the vehicle. It looks to me that a simple cigarette lighter plug will work given a 5 amp rating. The store clerk...
