1991 Chevy R/V3500 Crew Cab Build

So it has been a while since I updated but for the most part I have been driving the truck and working out little bugs. I ended up installing bigger lift rear springs to get rid of the sag in the rear that I had, while I was at it I replaced the rear main eye hanger. Over the last six months I...

1991 Chevy R/V3500 Crew Cab Build

I'm sure most of you saw that Texas had some craze winter weather two weeks ago. My family and I were fortunate enough to maintain power through the storm. I saw the slick roads as a good opportunity to road test the truck. With the hubs locked in and the case in 4hi it handled real good. I have...

1991 Chevy R/V3500 Crew Cab Build

Short post today, got the shackle flip install and was reminded why I hate frame rivets.... I installed the flip without dropping the tank, care had to be taken to not send the chisel through the side of the fuel tank. After some very choice words and a sore shoulder from swinging a hammer it...

1991 Chevy R/V3500 Crew Cab Build

Thanks man! The most in-depth thread is over at CK5 here. The reason for the BW4401 is because I am using a NV4500 from a GM truck with a Dodge input shaft. Before the F550 axle swap I was running a GM Dana 60 (passenger drop) with a GM NP205 behind the Cummins and NV4500. When I went to the...

1991 Chevy R/V3500 Crew Cab Build

Had a good weekend, was able to drive the truck around a little for the first time in at least a year and a half! I still have some small things to finish up like the rear shackle flip, and clocking the transfer case down, then do some shaking down and re-torqueing but this was very exciting...

1991 Chevy R/V3500 Crew Cab Build

It has been a busy last few months with the holidays,"covid", and work but I did get some stuff done! I was able to get all the engine compartment wiring finished up and ran the engine for a while. I also got the rear driveshaft re-worked, hooked up the parking brake, installed the grill guard...

1991 Chevy R/V3500 Crew Cab Build

Getting closer, still have to get the driveshafts adjusted and a drag link made, other than that it is mostly little things that are time consuming. Looks like I may have to raise the rear between 1"-2" but it is hard to tell with the slope of the concrete but I am very happy with it so far. I...

1991 Chevy R/V3500 Crew Cab Build

Here is a update from the last several weeks, I have the truck sitting back on its own, I finalized the shock hoops, installed the limit straps, built a brace to tie the panhard bracket to the engine crossmember. I also got a little of the body work done for the fender/core support trim. I still...

1991 Chevy R/V3500 Crew Cab Build

The donor truck my Cummins came from had some cheap Ebay electric fans already installed, the truck ran good and didn't get hot so I left them when I did the swap. I have always though that having something with a shroud would be better so with everything apart on the front end I decided to make...

1991 Chevy R/V3500 Crew Cab Build

I have gotten behind with my updates but here is a quick rundown. Got the caster set, the axle centered up, tacked up the panhard bar and got some cycling done. Over the 4th of July weekend I got the Cummins installed back in and built a transmission crossmember, then over the last few weeks I...

1991 Chevy R/V3500 Crew Cab Build

This box came on a M1031, I am not sure if they all had them or not. There is also two versions of this box, mine has the shorter front boxes, another version has front boxes that are even with the bottom of the cab (wish mine was that way..)

1991 Chevy R/V3500 Crew Cab Build

So I have a few updates, the parts gathering for the suspension is 90% complete! I also almost have the drivetrain/driveline worked out, I ended up going with a Borgwarner 4401 transfer case. This gave me a driverside drop and fixed outputs on front and rear, I did however need to swap out the...

Another, another which wheel. MRAP on a 550?

Actually I got really lucky! I found a guy on Craigslist that had 5 MRAP wheels, with hardware and the F550 adapers and I got them for a pretty good price! Good looking truck! I wish I didn't need this much lift but it is what it is... I am at about 6-7" of lift and a cab height around 78".
