This is the exact same thing I did on my TM-V71A. I placed the external speaker all the way over near the passenger side A pillar and routed the "right" VFO to it. The extreme audio separation makes it immediately apparent what channel is active.

My guess would be cost. Dodge trucks have historically been lower price than Ford and GM.
