Offroad & Overland Amateur Radio Net - Bay Area + IRLP

Darn it. Just saw this today. I'd like to learn how to tie into from Sac area. I'll use echolink to go direct as last resort. I know this will help improve my thread of useful repeater directory, which again, the intent is to be a bit more focused to offroad community...

    Soft shackle vs iron shackle

The label is correct in the picture and is universal. The shackle has on it the size of the pin and WLL. That's how you understand the size and capability. The units are the same, just scale. You understand what tons are to pounds. ;) 1 Ton = 2000 lbs 1 kip = 1000 lbs 3/4" pin size...

    Soft shackle vs iron shackle

Made this the other day as a nice reminder of ratings for common gear. You're only as strong as your weakest link. Keep in mind use of rear tow hitch location the Class. Iirc Class 4-5 are rated to 10 kips. Use the appropriate rigging for the situation. There is a difference from a steady...

    Adventuring the MTN4RNR

Fantastic trip there Max! Thanks for taking the time to share and the extent of it. Bummer for Andy, but he's a warrior getting back out there to rinse/repeat. He carries alot of redundant gear, which is great. Just add a spot for 3rd member! Pictures are fantastic and the extra info of the...

    Soft shackle vs iron shackle

Use what is appropriate for the rigging situation. There are no absolutes. I still use a hook, specifically the Warn hook. Previously, the MasterPull one with their rope. Very easy to work with as they much larger than typical. Easily slip big strap loops and seat well; avoid binding/pinch...

    Question about Warn M1200 Winch

I've got a much older M12000. Very similar looking in early pic posted to say where cable wraps. Can I upgrade solenoid box? Old picture to show entirety better, as its already mounted.

Fixed Rear Winch AND Aux Battery

Only need to connect ground wire to the common ground of the batteries. Works as expected with the switching. Remote switch I'll add later.

Fixed Rear Winch AND Aux Battery

^thanks I ended with matching battery. Installed everything, powered rear winch, and just need to hook ACR up. Trying to decide if I want to run the remote switch are not.

Fixed Rear Winch AND Aux Battery

It touches alright. The bolt tapping the box compared to other creaks and rattles is of no concern. Muffler rubber isolator on the other side dampens it anyways. Battery is in direct open air. Significantly less heat exposure compared to the one in the engine bay. Other stuff would limit any...

    Dual battery option?

Gorm, Congratulations on the project. Hope you share updates. I think your setup closely resembles mine, still in progress. Did you, are you going to get a voltage meter for 2nd battery? What Die Hard is that one?

Fixed Rear Winch AND Aux Battery

So far... Just need battery, run the leads, install solenoid, and mount a relay/fuse box for accessories. My starter battery is an Odyssey, about 20 months old. For this application, can I save some pennies for this aux battery? I've read it's appropriate to have matching/similar charge...

Fixed Rear Winch AND Aux Battery

Good morning gents. Spencyg and LR Max, thanks for your input. I sketched out my interpretation of your suggestions. LR I got lost on the #0 and 16g I think.... those are the hot and ground from ACR to Aux battery? Thx

Fixed Rear Winch AND Aux Battery

Took awhile to get going... Probably get an Odyssey to match the starter. Have I read correctly this should have an inline fuse?
