Interesting idea. And it should hold up well. I was thinking to try and get away with 3/8" for $150 / sheet (plain HDPE) but am likely going to bump up to 1/2" for $200/sheet. Just worried a long hot summer is going to make it droop. The hottest I've measured with an IR gun is ~146F IIRC and...

you know that's not a bad idea. I should put my 1/4-wave 2m antenna on that roof OnStar mount and repurpose the cable run. Our OnStar systems are the obsolete analog system and no longer working on the receiver end, anyway (even though the systems in our vehicles can get triggered by an impact...

    Tire and pressure advice

You've got a weird way of asking for help. People don't generally respond well to that combination of demand and dismissal. You seem to be looking for some mathematical formula to relate your load to lowered pressure. I'm not aware of such a thing being available, nor have I heard of such a...

Lol, bet there's a hundred thousand of'em. Check your air filter box. /and makes you really want a cabin air filter, seeing that.

Yep, I think mine cost $8. Of course, one could always pay $300 for the Yeti version...

Understanding Battery separators versus battery isolators, for charging via a car alternator.

well fratermus I'm coming at it reacting to the sudden rash of DC-DC topics flooding this board. And most by folks who seem to have picked up the idea somewhere and don't seem to really grasp the the technicalities of what they are cobbling together. They aren't even aware of 'first principles'...

That's an expensive bummer. Jinxed yourself, talking about how long it had been without ;)

Cool. I found a distributor / source down in L.A., I can drive down there and pick it up. I agree about the shipping, basically doubles the cost. And it's cheaper by the whole sheet, than trying to economize and having a whole sheet cut down in size. And since it's a Suburban, I can shove a...

    Overkill electric

Looks tidy. Not a fan of the bus bars being on a metal substrate, take a charged wire loose and let it make accidental contact and have some fun. Also, any plan to cover or coat those bus bars as protection against accidental contact? I see that the bars are isolated from the substrate. I've...

They make a good signal fire, too. In the later 80s a Marine reservist got left behind in the wastes of 29 Palms as his unit completed their training cycle. He was likely dead before they even realized he was missing. A determined search was made, he wasn't found. IIRC several months later, in...

Anyone come up with a good way of attaching a Trasharoo or similar to an SUV?

simple. You sew on a set of backpack style shoulder straps and loop them around the metal body of the Liftgate and close the hatch glass on them. As with my 'seabagaroo'

Nothing major or sechsy to report. Work continues to perform drivetrain improvements and maintenance ahead of our move out of CA. will be making several trailer runs, and possible some camper trailering, in the last third of the year. Have my new rear axle bearings, seals, in the mail, will be...

Understanding Battery separators versus battery isolators, for charging via a car alternator.

blather indeed. You're reading things that weren't said, while reading into and giving far greater value to stuff like 'increased load on alternator = drag = increased belt wear. A $15 / 100,000mi part, at that. Been pretty clear about factory ALT amp ratings. And aftermarket ALTs with higher...

driver window control switches seem to be a common failure. heavy use and the window / body arrangement gets them dripped on when the window is open in the rain. If you are considering splitting your transfer case for the encoder, you'll probably want to solve the case rubbing issue too...

The solenoids themselves are usually ok, just need to be exercised once in a while. But after your lengthwise high-center the other day I'd suggest looking at the front solenoid wiring just to make sure it isn't damaged. Don't recall if all the 4wd have the skidplate? Or if it is just part of...

    Solar panel under performing.

Back to the point IdaSHO was alluding to. If the battery is near full and your controller is in float, it isn't going to pass anything near the rating of your panel. There's nowhere for the juice to go. Consider the panel rating a max potential (no electrical pun intended).

    best charging method?

I have a folding panel kit from a defunct company that I built a custom roof rack mount for, with a hinged / locking side. My panel kit could have been a prototype for the Renogy folding kit, they are that similar. Lives on the roof full time, but retains the ability to quickly unlock and...

    best charging method?

solenoid, 4awg cable, Anderson SB50 connectors. paralleling your trailer 7-pin, such that the maximum juice from your vehicle alternator is available / applied to your trailer battery. Total cost about $100.

Spare tire smaller than the tires on the truck?

OP's plan will work. I prefer a matching spare myself, so that my only inconvenience is needing to change the flat.
