BFG MT vs Falken Wildpeak AT4: Sidewall Toughness

Thanks. That’s a lot of good info. It already has 16s on there, so that’s not an issue. It seems that I’m on the right track.

BFG MT vs Falken Wildpeak AT4: Sidewall Toughness

The limitation I’m seeing is the tire being on its sidewall even at relatively high pressures. That resulted in a sidewall puncture the very first time I took the camper to Baja. It was a hassle with my brother, but would be a bigger deal with my wife and kids. So I’m pretty risk averse in this...

BFG MT vs Falken Wildpeak AT4: Sidewall Toughness

It’s really not so bad. With the lift and tires it hasn’t been a problem for me at all. But that’s probably because I have very modest expectations of off road capability. I expect it to be a good traction vehicle, and not a vehicle for ‘wheeling at all. It needs to handle sandy beach sections...

    Locking Air Chuck Recommendations

Unfortunately the inflator has a crimped connection to the chuck and the other end is smaller than 1/4 NPT so my spare hose won’t work. A shame because I’ve got the parts and also I have a 36” hose which would mean I don’t need to bend down to inflate either.

    Locking Air Chuck Recommendations

Hmm. Mine is a crimped on connection. I’ll have to see if I can manage that.

    Locking Air Chuck Recommendations

Interesting. What fitting attaches it to the inflator?

    Locking Air Chuck Recommendations

I’ve got an ARB dual compressor onboard air compressor and a Viair locking air chuck. It’s got the trigger style valve with the gauge on top. 10” of hose and a lever-locking chuck at the end. I like it because I have six bigish tires to inflate (plus others who are traveling with me) so I don’t...

BFG MT vs Falken Wildpeak AT4: Sidewall Toughness

So you’re a little lighter than me but still heavy. I’m 14,500 loaded up for a trip. Down at 60 psi I was really on the sidewalls more than expected. I used to run down at 25 and 30 on my loaded F-350 and 40 when it had a Lance but the ‘Bunga is a whole lotta weight. But that’s why I’m hoping...

Be careful where you drive your Earthroamer's...

I am coming out of the past, but missed this before. Yes, it’s a BW 1356 with about a 2.7 low ratio. The chassis is an E450 so that’s a bit small. Thanks for laying it out for me, though.

    Making Water Potable with Bleach

Thanks guys. I totally forgot I posted this and just posted it again. Lol.

BFG MT vs Falken Wildpeak AT4: Sidewall Toughness

I just got back from Baja in my 24’ Class C 4x4 that I upgraded with U-Joint 6” suspension. It already went better on washboard roads than the original Salem-Kroger setup, but I went with 6” to fit 255/85 tires (more about that decision another time). I didn’t have time to swap out my 235/85-16s...

    Making Water Potable with Bleach

Several years ago, there was an Expedition journal issue with the dilution for adding bleach to water to make it potable, but not so much bleach that it wasn’t. My friend filled his 25 gal tank with questionable water and we want to make sure it’s drinkable. If you look online, you mostly...

Be careful where you drive your Earthroamer's...

What’s that black box you mention? My camper is no Earth Roamer, but I really feel what you mean about low gears. I’ve got a Dana 80 rear and ARB but only a 2.3:1 (I think) low range in my transfer case. With 4.63 gears, its just not low enough to be in the meat of my torque curve and still be...

    Greater On-(Dirt) Road Capability

I'm aware of those types of spacers, but I'm going to steer clear of them, I think. I'm not sure about the safety, but also there's lots of room in the wheel well to go up and down, but not out. If i keep the width down, I can get the wheels/tires into the camper wheel wells. Adding a whole lot...

    Greater On-(Dirt) Road Capability

I've been thinking about the reduction in speed due to fade. I'm not sure. It's pretty rough and pretty slow the whole time. I would have thought of washboard as high speed damping as well, but according to the gospel of the internet, it's more mid speed. Don't know, though. For reference...

    Greater On-(Dirt) Road Capability

I already air down to 65 on the rears, and 50 in the front, because the last time I aired down to 55 rear, I punctured a sidewall on my very first trip. This was after having traveled this area for over 20 years aggressively airing down previous vehicles. There's just enough weight that the...

Another Question for Chris: Shocks for Washboard

Which, if you read my thread about it, you would know isn't an option for me with my current setup. Since I don't have unlimited funds to try everything, I'm trying to see if others have a similar setup (weight, duals, wheel sizes) with specific experience and recommendations.

Another Question for Chris: Shocks for Washboard

Chris, I've got a thread going in the DIY Campervan forum, because I'm never sure where to put a Class C. Greater Washboard Performance From the last time I asked you a question, I believe that I can increase tire size to improve washboard performance a bit (from 235s to 255s). But what shock...
