Tundra “Stretch or Not To Stretch”

Regarding payload/ GVWR. It’s something you need to go to the scales and actually check. There’s been a couple misconceptions out there, best to weigh and read the manual. Sometimes payload is GVWR minus 150lbs drive and a 1/2 tank of fuel then what’s left. Sometimes it’s calculated with 150lbs...

    New Purchase

“Low mileage” is going to change for 100 series once that 25 year import time hasn’t been reached in 2023. There’s been a couple clean JDM 100 series for sale recently, although non currently, with under 80,000km (50,000 miles) for under 20k CDN. Of course here (Canada) early Lx570 are...

Need help deciding, Why a Tacoma over a full size truck?

I wish you could buy a Tacoma for the price of a super cab f150 here. Probably 33 to 35k for the Ford, 43 for the Tacoma or 47k if you want a manual. Of course that’s all Canadian, and I’m in Alberta it cold be regional. I’ve had Tacoma’s, 4runners and a GX, a couple 1/2 ton GMC and a ram 3500...

    Gladiator XMT

I may be mistaken, but isn’t the driving force in leaving HUMVEEs for different vehicles the issue of armouring them effectively to protect troops? If so then how does the JT improve on this? Pretty cool though

Used GX Daily Driver + dirt road capability?

Both generations are good, I can give you my take on the GX470 as I own one and up here is what you could get for 15k. Issues to be aware of, but not intending to detract from the overall great vehicle. Mines a 2004 for reference. Pin hole leak in the radiator. Hard to spot but leaves a pink...

(Opinion) Buying a HDJ8X or not...

Side note for the diesel 80 series, they’ve grown old hat here in Canada so they are not that much more then a gas LHD lx450. Then fly, buy, drive it home. Of course it’s a lifestyle vehicle now not a practical choice. There are some pretty minty 100 series out there now too.

    Opinions on truck/camper needed.

You can make it work in a short box camper, weight will be the issue not space. If you need to stretch out when it rains you can bring a screen room tent. Or go to the local recreation center and spend some time in the pool with the kid. You will be doing lots of measurements to get to where the...

    Lexus LX470 GX470

Two things to look for on the GX that are kept pretty quiet it seems. In the 2004/2005 years they devolved a pin hole leak in the radiator, and the transfer case selector has a o ring that would fail and leak. The transfer case repair is a significant job and easy to spot if there’s oil crud...

    what gas engine? 2020 F350: 6.2 Gas or 7.3 L Gas?

According to my (very minimal) reading it looks like that 10 speed transmission will have a composite oil pan. Now some composites are amazingly strong, ie helicopter blades, but I’d be ordering a skid plate if anything but pavement was in my future. Of course composite oil pans are not...

Most affordable, fuel efficient 4x4 set up

Rove did you make any decisions? I’m curious if they will blow out all the old body style gmc/chev trucks soon now that the new ones are sitting at the dealers.

Most affordable, fuel efficient 4x4 set up

So do you average 850 miles per tank? Or is this just while on cruise on the highway? Seems like the 4.7 million miles tracked on Fuelly averaging out to 17.19mpg is a lot different then 24 to 25mpg. Trucks are getting more fuel efficient and more powerful of course but I’m talking lifetime...

Most affordable, fuel efficient 4x4 set up

I just look at Fuelly.com seems to average out pretty reasonable. When ever someone says the get 25mpg in their Cummins/ Tacoma/ f150 I’m inclined to believe it happened once or that’s what the truck tells them it gets. Last time I looked for 2018 f150 it goes something like this. 2.7 ~...

Most affordable, fuel efficient 4x4 set up

As fellow albertian here who spends much to much time on Kijiji you just can’t touch the Fords right now on pricing. I’ve got both a 3.5 and a 5l super cab in my favourites for 33k and 32.5k respectively. Both with the 136l tank and the rear locker. Both 2018s new on the lot. Once in a while a...

Truck prep for the Dempster Highway

Depending on timelines and route plans I’d recommend using highway 40 (aka the forestry trunk road) from Coleman to Nordegg as opposed to the usual south east to north west highways. Or even all the way up to Grand Prairie if you are wanting to skip the national parks. Of course Banff and Jasper...

    Insulation Options for SpaceKap

I wonder the value in extra insulation in a spacekap. By this I mean fibreglass has some form of r value, let’s say 5. Better then an aluminum framed or pop up canvas camper anyway. Then what’s the smallest heater/ furnace you will buy? Will that keep the space warm at the coldest temperature...

Which land cruisers came factory with lockers?

For someone new to land cruisers just a FYI. The Lexus LX (450/ 470/ 570) are very similar if not the same in many cases (mechanically speaking) and often times cheaper then the comparable land cruiser. Some pretty nice LX470s to be has for sub 10k out there.
