High Quality IPad Mini mount replacement

Hi all, For work (land surveying), we used to use lifeproof cases, vehicle mounts, and ATV mounts for real time mapping. Frankly, they were awesome. Lifeproof has since discontinued these products. Is there any suggestions for a replacement? Specifically, an integrated environmental case that...

    Teardrops: Does shape affect MPG?

Large teardrops like the R-pod series, actually negatively affect fuel economy. The gap created between the trailer and the tow vehicle actually creates a turbulent area not found on more boxy style of trailer. As the teardrop height and width is reduced, obviously the effect is also reduced.

Tundra 1.5" Spacers Requires Longer Studs?

1.5 inch spacers should come with studs attached, with a depression for a nut for the stock studs. I have 1.25" spidertrax spacers on my 4Runner. Same model as the tundra.

Why no SAS on "expo" type trucks???

SAS vehicles are great for difficult, challenging terrain, but if I have lots of highway to get where I am going, I will take ifs any day. Stock (or near stock means comfort), and if I have 18 hours of driving to get to moab, comfort is key. I think the expo crowd is more about doing the longer...

Help me select new tires - Which have you liked or disliked?

I was about to reply with my suggestions until I realized you are in Texas. Take all the suggestions and look at the regions they are from. Pacific Northwest guys are going to lean towards wet and snow conditions, southerners are going to lean towards bottomless mud. If your off road is mostly...

2008 highlander road legal aux driving lights

So here is an unusual one. I have a close friend who approached me to provide more lighting for her highlander. She has cataracts, and her doctor strongly suggested she upgrade her vehicle lighting to additional driving lights, or bright fog lights. I have PIAA fog lights (by definition, low...

Bounty system for some open source drawer plans?

I have manufactured many things out of wood (from scrabble tile holders to entire houses) From my knowledge, here is some free advice, take it as you will. Sizing There is no one size fits all solution. Just drawers for jeeps are going to vary from cj-3 to cj-5 to yj to xj. Anybody offering a...

    Peg Hammer Options?

It is a sad day when humans have to turn to the Internet to determine how to drive a pointed stake into the ground.

Stove: Camp Chef Everest vs Stansport High Ouput

I had the same dilemma you did, and while close, I think the Everest fared slightly higher. Both have twice the output of a Coleman. I ended up getting the stansport, as I found it for sale locally. I think you will be happy with either one. On a side note for the stansport, I can fit a gsa...

    treadwright guard dogs

Treadwright's don't make any financial sense to me. Let's take a look at the cost breakdown between retreads and virgin tires in a popular size, 265/75r16. TR wardens shipped to my door would be $552. Mounting and balancing would be $100. Expected lifespan is 25k miles. Initial investment =...

what brakes are you guys using?

If you are in a taco with 15 inch wheels, I don't think the tundra upgrade is worth the price/hassle for you, unless you tow, or have a camper. The 4Runner tosses 1000 lbs of **** on a taco frame, and uses the same front brakes, and after upsizing your tires to 33's the brakes just don't have...

what brakes are you guys using?

Show up at my place in central Washington and the're yours for free. Shipping them anywhere would probably be more than the're worth.

in need of a new camp axe or hatchet

If you use an axe everyday for work: Ox head with hickory handle is the absolute best choice. But it takes regular maintenance, and care, actually a new one takes HOURS to get it just right. For a recreational camp axe you have two choices (or styles): estwing style or similar The narrow...

Recaps, re-treads or what ever you call them for a JKU

From my experience, it seems like there are as many horror stories as there are success stories when it comes to treadright. Locally, a guy here had a front tire delaminate at 75 mph, with a trailer full of tubing, and his wife and kids on board. He didn't wreck, but it was damn close. The story...

    Good source metric bolts

McMaster-Carr Grainger Fastenal If you strike out on all of these, you may have to source it from the manufacturer. (Ktm motorcycles use this size) If that doesn't work, recutting threads on a m10x1.5, Preferably a very long bolt with a large shaft to re thread. Alternatively, drilling and...

    New here, expedition trailer question

It is indeed a matter of supply versus demand. What is business school would have been called a Niche market". Here is the deal: There is not enough demand for these to be mass produced. Each trailer is usually constructed by one or two skilled craftsman who know the value their work. If you...

    Odd ball drawer slider question

Engineering wise, your theory is flawed. A 60" slider is designed to handle the leverage applied to it at 60". The 36" is likely not as heavily built. The design of 36" on 36" is fine, but the load capacity is not going to be the same at 60" as it would be at 36". In simple terms, imagine...

    BFG AT KO2 LT275/70R16

Avoid odd ball tire sizes, as they will never be in stock when you need them. 265/75R16 is damn near identical in size, and is far more options and availability.

Herculining Wood? Or.... For storage setup

Monstaliner isn't going to be about 3 times the price of Herculiner, and it only has a 10 hour window before it hardens. Monstaliner is a smoother finish. Like a heavy orange peel finish. Hercuiner has a rougher finish.
