    Gen 3 front end rebuild

I'll give that a try. It's going to be a pain to try to sawzall through that shaft. There isn't much room behind the bolt to get a full stroke from the saw. I wish I had a cutting torch to just blow through it.

    Gen 3 front end rebuild

So I'm half way through and the first bit of advice is don't try to pull the ABS sensor out of the wheel hub. Just unplug it from behind the bumper. Mine broke and it's a very expensive sensor. The other issue I'm having is 3 of the lower control arm shafts came out easy, but the fourth is...

    Gen 3 front end rebuild

I'll save them for you Toasty. PM me with an address and I'll shoot them to you. Anything I can do to further the USA made parts. I'll be looking at Gen 3 bash plates soon if those are on your radar.

    Gen 3 front end rebuild

I bought this rebuild kit from Rock auto. http://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=5734899&cc=1432571&jsn=8 Should I be changing out all of the bolts too? Or can I reuse 11 year old hardware? Also it comes with the ball joints in it already. These don't have grease fittings in them now...

    Gen III transmission

So I did something that may seem foolish but I've done this with every car I've ever owned and never had a problem. Driving my 2006 Montero, I was coasting down a grade and slipped the truck into neutral. Then I switched the ignition from run to Acc. This usually does nothing,(except save...

Considering a Gen III...but sure intrigued by GX470

The only reason I would switch from the Montero to anything else would be to get rid of the back door. For me with a dog that jumps in the back a split gate like the LC 100 would be best. I don't always like swinging that huge gate out when I put the dog in the back, plus there is no overhead...

    Any bird hunters?

My Griffon and a pheasant from a late season Kansas hunt. Didn't get any pics of the quail we got into but their numbers were much improved even if the pheasant numbers haven't rebounded.

Gen 3 - Cargo area "booming"

Did anyone figure this out? I installed OME suspension on mine and now have a rattle in the back. It wasn't there at first but now I hear it all the time while driving down the road. It's not a loud booming but it's definitely from suspension. Unfortunately I too discarded my old shocks...

    Gen III Ball Joints

Got it done last night. Upper and lower on the drivers side. I did pull the axle out as I couldn't get a torque wrench on the upper ball joint retaining nut. I also didn't have a 22 mm box end wrench so I had to try to fit a socket between the axle and the nut.

    Gen III Ball Joints

I have the FSM download for the torque specs but I have a quick question. Do I need to pull the axle from the hub to do the ball joints? I think I can just keep the brakes and axle attached to the knuckle to disassemble. Any one done this on their Gen III?

Gen 3 Montero Front Suspension Assembly Question (OME)

My 2006 just failed a state inspection because they say it needs a drivers side ball joint. What is weird is that it's not popping or creaking which is what I normally hear on cars needing a ball joint. I'm hearing a whirring noise but they say that is nothing and not to worry about that. To...

Gen 3 - Optional 2nd row DVD player

I've never used mine, but it's never once opened up on me. I'm glad not to have the sunroof as it's a lot of weight up high and a potential leak point or motor failure. I'm trying to figure out what to do with that space if I do pull mine out. It's wired for power so it might make some nice...

    '03 limited - Cracked Exhaust Manifold - Driver's side

I'm thinking mine are cracked as well. This winter during cold starts it would sound like a diesel for the first 5 minutes with the clatter. Now it still does it first thing in the morning. Not at idle or revving. But under a load when accelerating I hear it through the firewall or if I roll...

    Border to Border

I'm also questioning why you would go South to North during the fall hunting season? Why not start in Alaska and follow the weather south and hunt your way down? I only saw the big game hunting episodes but why not travel with a bird dog? I would at least bring a solid lab along rather than...

    Border to Border

Has anyone caught this on the sportsman's channel? The concept and the rig are very cool but I never like it when someone on an epic adventure whines about how hard it is to be on the road... boo hoo... your living the dream. Does Mike have a presence on this forum?

    Post your Mitsubishi Pajero Pics

It only looks that way now...after we plowed our way to it with a logging skidder. We got over a foot locally in New Hampshire on Thanksgiving eve, along with loss of power for over 200,000 residents. The part that amazed me was that I slid perfectly sideways. I wish I would have taken a...

    Would better tires have helped

So I went hunting last night and parked off the road. When I went to back out I came straight back in the tracks I made coming in but the snow had softened and I slid perfectly sideways into the ditch. I was amazed how easily it slid sideways. I wish I had pictures of the tracks in the...
