    determining M416 value

Hoping this is kosher with forum rules, but I'm trying to come up with a value for M416 in an attempt to sell it. Titled and registered with a VIN in CO as a home built trailer Original frame and tub, media blasted and rattle canned. Not the greatest of paint jobs, but it keeps most of the...

GMRS Walkie talkies, next step up

I have a cheap telescopic flag pole with a J pole mounted to the ladder of my 5th wheel, gets the antenna up in the air quite a bit. Line of sight really is key. Without it they won't go far, with it you can actually get the range advertised on the packaging. On multiple occasions I've been...

One of the Harbor Freight pelican knockoffs would probably work just fine.

Someone posted a screenshot of it already. Still denied it . . . .

Mobile Radio choice: Dual band vs. 2m?

I think the additional repeater capability of the dual band would be worth it. If I remember right, you're in Denver? The Thorodin machine near Boulder is 70cm and I can work it from my place in Centennial. There's a couple 70cm repeaters down south too, once specifically that I've used is...

Antenna options for aluminum bodied F-150

Ah, yeah, missed the mention of the topper in the original post. That definitely wouldn't work, lol. I have this NMO antenna at the house, and it's worked well so far. Not sure if I'll use the same one on vehicles or not. Will probably use this one in a stake mount on the truck, but come...

Driving a 30’ Box Truck Over Engineer Pass, in an attempt to prove SWB 4x4 drivetrains aren’t really needed....

There is ample signage along CR-2 out of Silverton letting people know what they're in for. And how did NOBODY see this guy going up there and stop him?

Antenna options for aluminum bodied F-150

I have my antennas (CB and GMRS for now, soon to be 2m/70cm) mounted in the stake pockets of my AlumiDuty. You'd probably get better ground plane with the fender/hood setup but not sure it's enough to really make a difference. I forget the name of the company off hand, but the website looks...

    Which handheld GMRS

We max out around 1.5-2 miles in our neighborhood between HTs. Tall trees, relatively dense houses, and pretty hilly. The GXT1000s can transmit at 5 watts as well, but I prefer their form factor and ease of use over some of the other radios posted so far for what it sounds like you're looking...

    Which handheld GMRS

Battery life on the pack that the GXT1000 comes with sucks. It's a 700 mah pack. I have probably 8 or 10 of the GXT1000s and on each one I just use rechargeable AAs and get days of use out of them. They're around 2100mah I believe. The OEM pack would be dead after a day of moderate use, and...

    Longer range handheld options

That's what I would do. I held off on doing it for too long. The test really is easy. I took a class and self studied a bit, my wife spent a couple hours doing practice tests and we both got 34/35. We're used to substantially harder tests (FINRA securities exams) and originally went into it...

    Longer range handheld options

Two InReach units can talk to each other without cell coverage. It's slow, but it works. Radio range is very line of sight dependent. More power won't necessarily do anything for you.

    OG build (pic heavy)

I believe the lower were Rubicon Express Super Ride adjustables. Factory uppers in the front, RE adjustable uppers in the rear. It was a long time ago though, so not 100% sure I'm remembering right. I wouldn't get too hung up on lockers, especially if you still have the 35 in the back...

my experience with GMRS so far

I got mine within a few days, maybe a week, tops. Don't exactly remember, but it was not long.

    OG build (pic heavy)

Yup, the upper mounts cracked on the unibody, one of them tore almost completely off. I was on 33's and short arms at the time, but did have a spooled rear so I'm sure that accelerated the damage. The square tube on my Clayton's has held up just fine, been on my ZJ for almost 15 years.

Thanks for the pic, that's what I assumed it would look like but I appreciate the confirmation.

    OG build (pic heavy)

I ripped 3 of the 4 UCA mounts off my ZJ before going to long arms, and my ZJ is still rust free 15 years after ripping them off so rust is definitely not to blame. You can repair the mounts, but they usually just crack again. I put Clayton's Long Arms on my ZJ back in '06 and haven't had any...

need some help deciding on a 2m/70cm radio

I've looked high and low online for a pic of how it looks with the names displayed and haven't seen one. Would you mind snapping a pic of it and posting it? I'm a bit picky when it comes to displays like that. Thanks!

need some help deciding on a 2m/70cm radio

I've been playing around with the 5100 and really enjoy it. Put a Tram 1180 on the roof of the house and everything is working great. Having used the 5100 now though, the display is a bit large for any of my vehicle installs, so my plan is to just use it as a base unit in the house. The 2730...
