    Tire Chain Thread

Sounds like a set of diamond pattern chains oughta work for you. They ride much nicer than the ladder pattern chains and they're easier to put on.

Advice needed on choosing the right snow chains

Sounds like you got yourself an appropriate set of chains! For your slightly off the beaten path camp sites, make sure you take a shovel. I've been in situations where an overnight snowstorm left us with just a little bit too much snow to drive through. A stout shovel makes all the difference...

Brainstorming ideas for 120v cab heat

The first bit of winter is settling in over central Montana this weekend. I know the struggle. I've taken a page out of the Scandinavian's book, they put a small ceramic space heater in the cab. Connect it to a short little multi plug in extension cord with the block heater and battery tender...

    Save The Rovers

I tried saving the one in Montana, but someone from Virginia beat me. Anyone on here? I hope it's going to a good home! (Make sure you dry it out really good! It's been getting snowed on with leaking alpine windows....)

    Save The Rovers

Hey, I'm in Helena! I might have to go take a look at that one. I'd be willing to take a look for someone else in the forum too, if there's any interest.

    Gas can storage

The problem is after you use the cans, you might get enough splashed/dribbled/spilled gasoline around the spout to notice a smell. I take extra garbage bags with me and put the cans inside of them if that happens.

    Rear Diff issue- rasping noise

Mine's a '97 Disco, and when I first lifted it I was getting the same noise in the same conditions. Turned out to be my front driveshaft, geometry had changed enough to make it grind in "neutral float". I put in a double cardan front driveshaft and the sound went away completely. I've also...

    Discovery 1 Rooftop tent question

We had our Tepui Kukenam on top of our SD rack for a while. 2" lift, 235/85's and the tent bolted to square bar on top of the roof rack. Meant that I could barely reach the zipper. And I'm 6' 4"! I ended up tying some bailing twine to the zipper and using that to pull it closed/open in the...

    Front Wheel Bearings

The bearings aren't too bad. You'll have to take the rotors off to get to them, so if you're looking to replace rotors it's a good time to do it. You'll want the extra big "hub nut spanner". Give Trevor at RovahFarm a call, he helped me get what I needed and it made it a lot easier.

    Another expedition truck on portals...

Three way valve would work great, and keep the water from transferring until you want it to. Or a very small line plumbed into the bottom of each so that it will slowly equalize automatically, without needing to have a fluid level gauge. And regarding the filter, sometimes pond water is all...

    Another expedition truck on portals...

Having the weight of those tanks down low will be great. Will you have a way to equalize the tanks so you don't end up lopsided? Also, quick thought... would this rig benefit from a high volume water filtering system? Perhaps designed with a smaller interior tank that won't be as susceptible to...

Towing an “adventure trailer” with disco I or II?

I pull a very small home made trailer (with our RTT on it) behind my DI. It probably only weighs about 700#s. Only thing I can contribute is that the caster change from a lift will be much more noticeable when towing, so watch out for that. Mine has caster corrected arms now and it tows our...

Disco 1 / Range Rover brake pins

Having trouble getting them out or in? I just pull and twist with some needle nose pliers to get the rods out. And use the needle noses to hold the springs back while pushing the rods back in. But I'm using new cotter pins each time....

    Treadwright tires?

Oh, and that's all been on a fairly heavy Disco I driven across most of the Northwest.

    Treadwright tires?

I've ordered tires from Treadwright twice, the first time for a set of mud terrains and the second time for a set of all terrains. The price was certainly great for a vehicle that wasn't being driven a whole lot, but I had issues both times. The first set of mud terrains were the bead to bead...

    Dally Driver Locker Chose (Discovery)

For what it's worth, I put Truetracs in front and rear when I regeared to 4.11s. Having it in the front helped with steering wander caused by the lift and tired bushings. And I'll take some left foot braking every once in a while over the extra cost and set up of air lockers.

Preventing a deep dish of gumbo.... Neverwet on my new wheels

I'd rather have 50 ppm of Pam in my glass of water than 50 ppm of WD-40!
