    gas vs diesel

As long as it runs reliably, is easy to repair and maintain, and can get the job done without costing an arm and a leg you're good. I think it's all in the individual engine designs and the transmissions that back them up. You can have a terrible gas engine with all sorts of problems and great...

    gas vs diesel

In my humble opinion you really need to think about what kind requirements you have for the engine. How much weight you need to carry, what range you need, what terrain you intend to pass through. For example if you want to go to Alaska in the winter, you'll have much less of a headache with a...

My 1992 Chevrolet/Isuzu Trooper Build in Chile S.A.

Hi Eric, I'm sorry I haven't posted any pics yet. Just got super busy and it went on the back burner. I will try to take so today though. Good to hear your turbo is ok. Air turbulence in the crank case is normal, there are a lot of moving parts after all. The crank case vent just acts as a way...

My 1992 Chevrolet/Isuzu Trooper Build in Chile S.A.

I'll post a picture when I get home today. I read the internet for about a month trying to come up with a decent design. The steel wool doesn't break apart once its in there and if you've cut it then just make sure that there are no pieces flying about. I check it every oil change and make sure...

My 1992 Chevrolet/Isuzu Trooper Build in Chile S.A.

Wow! Eric you've made a lot of posts here! I've been really busy and haven't checked for a while. Just had a quick read through them, but don't have time to watch the vids since I'm at work. Those views in the landscape photos are amazing! We have blizzard outside in Calgary, Canada, totally...

Ron, do you have a rifle on the passenger seat too? ;)

    Japanese mini trucks...freaking awesome.

Buy in Japan and import yourself! It's just a little more complicated than buying stuff from ebay from another country. At least in Canada. Litteraly go to a website like tradecarview.com, pick a car, the dealer arranges shipping (roll on roll off not container) and export docs and you arrange...

Battling head light glare in our beloved Subarus

Sometimes I drive with glasses that have polarised lenses, yep sunglasses in the dark:) Windshield condition is super important too. And vision problems DON'T create glare!

My 1992 Chevrolet/Isuzu Trooper Build in Chile S.A.

I believe the 3.1s had manual pumps up until 94 or something like that. My father has a 92 Trooper with a 3.1 or the 4JG2 engine with a manual pump. Its efficient if tuned well. I think he gets between 22mpg and 30mpg, depending on driving and conditions. The 4JB1 or 2.8 was available until the...

72 Bug, Baja for the road

That's really nice. I wish my wife would help me in the garage as well, but there's never any time. Anyway I'm looking forward to more news. Your pace is impressive!

72 Bug, Baja for the road

Not sure if I missed it somewhere, but what sort of engine is going in? Really enjoying the build thread! Also, I feel a bit weird asking this but I see a woman in many of the photos. Is that you? If so, then it's great to see a woman doing such great work, if not, then it's great work all the same!

One more thing, I don't know about others but I can't see some of the photos you posted recently. Don't know why... and also I cant post the pdf here as the file is too big and PM doesn't let me add attachments. Maybe i'm technologically inept but I cant figure out where to put the @ in your...

Thanks for the photos of the Fourtrack. It would be cool to see what kind of things youre doing to it, sounds enticing if youve changed to rear suspension config three times! More on the trooper too. Here is a link to the catalog site I use: http://catalogs.marketparts.ru/ It's a Russian site...

You could try to source a steering box from the us from a wrecker. It would be cheaper for sure. There are troopers in the yards here all over. Though the shipping might be steep for a used part...

My 1992 Chevrolet/Isuzu Trooper Build in Chile S.A.

Hi Eric, Great job on mating the shafts! The welds look great and sleeved joints are super strong. It's just awesome to see this kind of stuff. I realize that the culture in Chile is a bit different in North America, is suppose it's just a matter of having less available. I am totally in the...

My 1992 Chevrolet/Isuzu Trooper Build in Chile S.A.

I'm really enjoying your build so far. The practicality is really nice, everything you'll be using on an everyday basis. Also its always interesting to see someone trying to make things themselves as opposed to buying bolt on upgrades. I'm looking forward to more updates! I live in Canada and...

Talk me out of buying a Jimny in Canada

this looks decent: https://www.tradecarview.com/used_car/japan%20car/suzuki/jimny+wide/15532407/ and has the G13B engine that was used in the Vitara here so there may be some parts cross reference.

Talk me out of buying a Jimny in Canada

The biggest question is what type of use is this thing going to see. If you are going to drive it only in the country on secondary highways, dirt roads and trails, then it might be worth while. It will hold 110km/h but not much more, especially on highway mountain passes. The engine on the one...

    Gen 3 diesel swap

4m40 up to 96 has a mechanical pump, post 96 has electronic. 4m41 is all electronic and all direct injection with a variable vane turbo. 4m40 is simple as pie the only electronics is the ecu for glow plugs and egr. i would not swap a 4m41 unless you are good with electronics.
