Best Wheel+Tire configuration for Class 7 Commercial Truck?

not following your measurements. if one patch measurement is on a loaded vehicle and the other is has no load, then your measurements have no value. perhaps I'm missing something.

2022 Ford F550 - DIY - Adventure Expedition Vehicle Build Thread

On my F550 I have front and rear 18,000 pound superwinch installed since 2014. We've had it all over the US, Mexico, Africa, Middle East. no problems with the winch itself but poor aftermarket mounting of the control wiring resulted in the remote not working - easy to fix. it got a lot of hard...

2022 Ford F550 - DIY - Adventure Expedition Vehicle Build Thread

We spent 2.5 years traveling to 57 countries, 14 months 'circumnavigating' Africa, then covid struck, we moved back to USA. See the facebook page below for our travel log. We hope to be back on the road one year from now but we'll only travel for 3 to 4 months at a time.

2022 Ford F550 - DIY - Adventure Expedition Vehicle Build Thread

Looks like a great build, a couple comments: 1) are you an engineer with experience building 3 point subframe? if not don't do it. Read Fords recommendations for cab and chassis cargo beds. (you can also look at my build/compromise solution in this forum) 2) not sure you will be happy with 16.5...

    4x4 really necessary?

You mention Forest Service roads and sounds like you plan to be in North America? so I'm not clear why you want an older mechanical truck. But on to your question. The answer is it all depends. Every vehicle has limitations. if it gets muddy and you have 2WD (well or 4WD) and you just cannot go...

Mounting a camper to Truck Frame or Flat Bed? (Flat bed in place of sub frame)

keep it simple. See what the recommendation is from RAM, check out Australia's requirements for mounting stuff to a truck (they have detailed, reasonable requirements). A 3 or 4 point subframe is a very complex bit of engineering and there a have been several global travelers with destroyed...

    International 3800 adventure bus build

This isn't an overland vehicle and can't be converted into one - it's way too long. I have 200 inch wheelbase which caused occasional problems during my two and a half years of travel. You're way over 200". I suggest you make it as functional as possible for the paved road where you'll be 98% of...

SRW vs DRW? Planning to install a coach on a Ford Super Duty but can't decide on wheel configuration (dually?)

if you are really going to build that tall or be anywhere near your GVW then I recommend increasing the sway bars one size (third party), MUCH better on road stability. they can be easily detached or disabled for serious off road.

SRW vs DRW? Planning to install a coach on a Ford Super Duty but can't decide on wheel configuration (dually?)

keep the dual, reduce your headaches, maintain same load per inch of width of tire (critical for off road), use stock wheels and tire sizes. Rocks are really not a problem especially in your situation. duals have better stability on the road too - unless you get vv heavy duty tire. Do you plan...

    SRW 450 Mountain Build

I had a local builder build a hinged bed using ford and Australian truck department of transportation (whatever they call it) reccomendations, not pivot frame and not phoenix (who I think subs this out) see build blog GOVE. Pivot frames push your center of gravity up and frequent damage the...

    SRW 450 Mountain Build

The tire upgrade will put extra stress on brakes all around and everything that moves in the front end. There are good after market replacements for ball joints and the unit bearings - do that as part of your tire upgrade. Also consider upgading the power steering pump (maybe replace stock...

Options for round the country trip.

For the size you want you need class 5 at least and not a camper unless you custom build which won't be in your budget. Used 4x4 Class C motorhome seems like a good fit - They are hard to find but for sure around. Pickup with trailer adds some flexibility. In usa tall and wide is just fine...

GOVE Global Overland Vehicle Economical build.

Well, we've been on the road since December of 2017 spending 5.5 months in Mexico, returned to the USA for a month and made some updates and got rid of stuff that didn't work well in Mexico. here is a list: Left the inflatable kayaks at home. Mexico was the ideal place to use them and we...
