    Skamper 100s - 1982

Welcome to the Skamper community! The corners are not hard to duplicate from fiberglass. If I can do it with zero prior fiberglass experience, anyone can. My advice after having rebuilt my entire roof on my 080S is to peel all that silicone caulk off the sides of the roof, remove the aluminum...

Any Northstar TC800s? What did you do with the wardrobe?

I'm not exactly sure of the dimensions of the TC 800 wardrobe, but last year when we went cross country in our hardsider, it had a wardrobe that was useless space. The floor area was large enough for the porta potti, but above it was lots of wasted space. I measured the area and went shopping...

Anyone use a hitch cargo rack?

Last year my family and I took a month long, 6500 mile trip with a rack on the back. It was also a 500 lb rated rack. I carried a propane folding Thermos grill and firewood on it most of the time. It also made a handy "porch" for getting into and out of the camper. I couldn't imagine the trip...

    Yet Another Skamper Build...

LOL! I look at it in the back yard every day and still think gasoline & match! But like a good friend of mine says, we are suckers for lost causes. Thanks for the laugh! And also the encouragement.

    Shadow Cruiser Roof

Stereo, with the tools I have, I would mark the complete square where I wanted the hole on the bracket. The I would start with a small drill bit at the center of the square to make a pilot hole. Then I would use the biggest bit possible to stay within the confines of the hole. Then I would start...

    Shadow Cruiser Roof

Even though I was able remove my roof, I've been scratching my head for a solution to avoid removing the roof. I like the idea of welding a nut (I would use a large one) to the bracket. That is the same way idler pulleys on modern serpentine belt systems work on today's engines. Great idea! An...

    Yet Another Skamper Build...

A quick update: we had an unusually warm 60 degree February day yesterday, so I backed the truck up next to the Skamper so I could reach the roof easily. It took about 10-15 minutes to apply a layer of latex caulk down the center seam. It rained last night--no leak! Hopefully this will hold...

    Yet Another Skamper Build...

The torsion bar helps "twist" the lifting arms from horizontal to vertical. Before I repaired my roof, it was very difficult to crank the roof up. Once the brackets were reattached to the roof and the bars were properly torsioned, it was like night and day. The roof is now very easy to raise...

    Yet Another Skamper Build...

Hello stereo! It's just fine with me to post your roof rebuild questions here. In retrospect, this thread ought to be renamed "Skamper Roof Rebuild." I'll take a stab at your questions. I had to have a couple cups of coffee just to digest it all :coffee: You may want to grab a cup of coffee...

Camper Tie Down: In Need of Feedback

Last summer my family and I took a trip from Southern Illinois to Washington State in a brand-new borrowed 2013 Chevy diesel with a 1979 Cameo hard-side TC. I mounted it using two eye bolts like yours in the front corners of the bed reinforced with a very small 1/8" steel plate. These were...

    Yet Another Skamper Build...

eugene, using the bow of a board to your advantage is a great idea! I'm going to have to do something to invert the sag in the roof pretty soon. We've had a lot of precipitation lately in Southern Illinois and the center seam has a slight leak. It's not enough that I want to mess with it in the...

    Shadow Cruiser Roof

Hi Mike! Yes, the angle iron did cover the screw holes. I was able to attach mine to the fresh 1/4" OSB sheeting I used when I rebuilt the roof. On a "stock" application, there is a 1 1/2" strip around the edge the screws are mounted to, so there's not much room for error. I believe in the...

    Shadow Cruiser Roof

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I posted the photos on the thread of my Skamper rebuild thread: http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/79870-Yet-Another-Skamper-Build?p=1246792#post1246792 Hopefully it will at least explain how I did it. It sure took all the "twisting" stress off...

    Yet Another Skamper Build...

Sorry I hadn't posted for a while. The Skamper is on the back burner for a while. I was hoping to have it "campable" for whitetail deer season in Southern Illinois, but that hasn't happened. I have also been sidetracked with rebuilding the engine on my '68 Beetle, so that has filled any free...

    Shadow Cruiser Roof

I TOTALLY rebuilt the roof on my Skamper this fall, so the procedure is pretty fresh in my mind. When I finished and came to the same point where you are with the torsion bars, I borrowed an idea from someone else and attached angle iron from a discarded bed frame to each torsion bar. Each piece...

The TARDIS - A Four Wheel Camper Build

The roof is back on mine now. But when I look at everything else it needs, I'm thinking "Insanity" might be a good name! If not for it, then me! Hadley, you're rig is looking great! I love it! And Paul, you keep me inspired with all your projects. Keep up the good work!

Fiberglass Skamper Corners Sorry for the delay with an update. Work and family have been getting in the way of pleasure (if that's what a Skamper rebuild is called!). One of these days I'll get my priorities sorted out, tho! Here's that teaser photo I posted a few weeks back of the beginning...

The TARDIS - A Four Wheel Camper Build

Duh! I just realized I typed "Mr. Who" instead of "Dr. Who." See? I told you I wasn't a fan. Anyway, Keep up the good work! (Mr. Bean + Dr. Who = Mr. Who?)

The TARDIS - A Four Wheel Camper Build

I really like the looks of that clean, uncluttered interior. I am enjoying following your build. I will say that curiosity got the best of me and had to google "TARDIS," not being a Mr. Who fan. I'm thinking of calling my project "The Galileo., for two reasons, the first being right now the roof...

    Roof Fix

I say to go for it! If it works you could be in business for years to come. If it doesn't work, you won't be out that much and won't have really lost anything. After all the repairs to mine, I still have a few aluminum holes to cover.
