where are the Porsche cayenne expo builds?

I'm currently in the "feasibility study" phase of making an expo build on a 2004 Cayenne Turbo thanks to a lot of great information here and on Rennlist. I suppose I'm at about phase 4 now (acquire, shake down, maintenance, tires) and went with the BFG KO2s in 265/65/18. In my case, it appears...

Looking at Discovery 2's...what should I be prepared for??

You do realize you didn't have to argue because there was a recall due to improper block machining for the oil pump dowels in 2003, right? I'm not saying the other years around '03 were problem free - far from it. But what you are describing is an actual recall campaign from a VIN range in a...

    Brake light

Replace the fluid reservoir cap. Actually, just make sure the connections to it are clean and tight first. You should be able to turn the light on and off by moving the plunger. Yes, it's counter intuitive, but in almost every vehicle the "parking brake light" is a combo light for low fluid...

    2001 disco air con clutch

If the clutch is seized it means the compressor should be turning all the time. But even if that's happening, the compressor is sure to follow close behind. Best to replace the whole thing before the compressor starts eating itself and spewing pieces of itself into the system (black death)...

    Mechanical question

Well, I wouldn't try to tie all this up into one thing. The typical reason for low idle is going to be that the IAC is not running. This could be because of a bad or dirty IAC, bad connections to it, or a bad TPS. I believe there is a diagnostic procedure with test points in RAVE.

Is the design of the 3.9/4.0/4.2/4.6 inherently bad?

I'm not sure how to respond to this other than: re-read my post. I neither said nor suggested they leaned the fuel mixture. That would be as ridiculous as.....well...spending all that time responding to a post you didn't read properly.

Post pictures of your Land Rover.

You would fit in just fine in my driveway.

Post pictures of your Land Rover.

Both good looking trucks. I hope you learned from your mistake on the first one and have a greasable front prop joints on this one. And I just realized I haven't posted anything of mine on here: '02 D2 on the left and a rust bucket '98 D1 on the right with a set of 2" TerraFirma springs...

Is the design of the 3.9/4.0/4.2/4.6 inherently bad?

Yeah...the plural of anecdote is not data, and dexcool is not what kills these motors. I will agree that dex tends to turn acidic faster when there is air in the cooling system, and the D2/P38 cooling system is problematic to bleed so this is more of a factor......but it's not the problem...

Is the design of the 3.9/4.0/4.2/4.6 inherently bad?

I absolutely agree with everything you said before this. The 2003 dowel pin drilling fiasco coupled with the numerous 4.0 and 4.6es I've seen with multiple loose liners (literally able to pull them out by hand when torn down to the block and the block heated to near operating temp) is all the...

    Terrafirma Springs/Shocks

I have the HD setup (springs and shocks) on my otherwise unmodified '98. It definitely rides like a "truck" now when unloaded. It reminds me of my 1 ton pickups that I've had in the past. Totally acceptable to me for the normally short distances it's used for and completely worth it for when...

    Say NO to Rock Auto.

I absolutely agree with you. The fact that he's throwing a temper tantrum over a common issue (which ruined other parts that he should KNOW is all on him for being complacent) and after being offered commonly accepted remedies that would apply to any online discount parts reseller is the issue...

    Say NO to Rock Auto.

I was waiting for someone to bring that up. On a D1 the standard euro cap adapter that comes with any reasonable pressure bleeder works. It's the D2 where you have to make your own or fight with one of the universal caps, but it's still worth it for the time saving and pedal feel. And...

D1 Rescue / What have I gotten myself into?

The only trucks I'm aware of that had 24v were MoD Defenders. I don't see in what reality it would make sense to swap over everything that needs swapping to make a truck 24v. If the parts even exist (think window computers, etc). Also, "only an engine swap"? Adding a second battery is a 30...

D1 Rescue / What have I gotten myself into?

It's pretty common to add a second battery to these trucks. I've done so on mine. It's got nothing to do with 12/24 volts. They are wired in parallell, possibly with a manual or automatic isolator (not necessary, but nice). I've got mine wired on an isolator so both batteries charge but one...

    D2 A Pillar Replacement?

Wow, I though this was going to be a carnage thread. All you're talking about are A pillar TRIM PIECES.

I am land rover illiterate. looking at all my options

It may be your impression, but it hasn't been my experience or the experiences I've heard from other people who work on these trucks. I've got not one but TWO 100K+ blocks in my barn. One has a crack behind the #6 liner and it's loose, the other one has two loose liners that were cutting holes...

    Accidentally bought a Discovery...

A heated windshield is pretty obvious. You can see the vertical wires running through it if you get up close. If it's completely clear with no parallel lines every 1/16" or so it's not heated.

    New-to-Me '04 Disco II

I definitely wouldn't say "or nothing else" but the rotary coupler is a common issue for this type of thing. But definitely check/replace the fuse first....it can't hurt. You can look up the appropriate wires before and after the rotary coupler to test in the electrical library (one of the...

Take the gamble or run? Disco shopping ITT

Absolutely. It's going to severely limit your choices, but if you find the right one I'd say go for it if that's what you like. I've come around to appreciating that an auto is good for off roading if you run it properly and in the right situations. There are still situations where I wish I...
