    The overland beater: Dodge 1500

Yea it's crazy how some stuff has increased in value. Good if your in the business, but tough as a collector. I have a vacuum switch problem in my 73 Suburban, going to have to change it out to a later cable system. The vacuum switch is no longer available as I recall.

83 Suburban build - Big truck for a big family!

It's called a speedy sleeve. Many seals come with them now. Try to find a double lip timing cover seal like national or other name brand.

83 Suburban build - Big truck for a big family!

Leak looks like the front of engine. Timing cover seal at the vibration dampener is very common. Also fuel pump at passenger side front of engine will leak if not tight and there is a bolt hole at the fuel pump rod in the block that can leak oil if it's missing.

    ExPo's 2000 7.3 Excursion Build

What route are you taking south from Washington? Hurricane Ridge is very beautiful this time of year if it's not closed yet. I think they close it at the end of October. Great views across the straights and all around. Really diverse scenery in each compass direction. Oregon coastline is very...

    The overland beater: Dodge 1500

Nice pictures, thanks. I like the slide out idea of the stove table on the Rover. Was the Willys wagon on an S-10 Blazer frame with IFS? I would have never given that a thought, but it's a nice concept. The FJ pickups and wagons are some of my favorites also. People with green hair always remind...

    ExPo's 2000 7.3 Excursion Build

The retirement and health insurance are definitely nice, but the biggest raise you will ever get is no longer having a mortgage payment, at least where I live. I'd love to tag along on these trips though. The scenery is beautiful!

    The overland beater: Dodge 1500

Good to hear about the truck, I thought your budget was 4 grand? Expo itis making you fudge? If you restore really old bikes you probably know of my ex brother in law Steve Huntzinger. That is his livelihood. He did the Indian for the Bert Monroe movie and has restored many other old bikes. I...

    GMT-800 Suburban lift options?

I've run 285's for years. The speedometer/odometer is more accurate with the 285's than factory size tires. When I drive by motion detected speed signs, I am right on the money. If you haul weight you will like the H2 springs, try them without the spacers at first and if you want it higher put...

midsize Ford Ranger pickup, Bronco SUV coming in a couple of years ?

Your not going to get a V8 in an Expedition or Navigator. Ecoboost V6 is the only engine available. My guess is like I said a few months ago, the Bronco will be a rebadged Ford Everest. Explorers are being dumped by the bigger police agencies. Too many warranty issues. CHP is buying Dodge...

    GMT-800 Suburban lift options?

Sorry for the delay in responding, If you plan on hauling a fair amount of weight I would go with the H2 rear springs. They are probably not taller than the Z71 springs, but are progressively wound so they don't compress as much when loaded. They look just like old Moog Cargo Coils we used to...

    The overland beater: Dodge 1500

Enjoy yourself and be sure to take some pictures. Be careful of the slippery slope of want to have, need to have stuff, it can drain your wallet quickly and leave you wondering what this is all about. Stay true to your beater theme!

    Jack's 2007 Chevy Build

Good to know, my wife had the same thing happen on the Suburban. She knew the minute she left the tire store something was wrong, went back and the shop manager came out and apologized. Said they had misbalanced one of the tires and were fixing it now The F350 has Cooper Discoverer HT3's on it.

    Blender, My LX450/FZJ80 + FJ45esk + GM + Land Rover crazy concoction

On shifter location, have you ever seen the old fashioned low tech anti theft device on old Jeeps? Two chain links, one welded to the bottom of the dash, the other on the shifter. Park, put Jeep in reverse drop a Master lock through the overlapping links and walk away. Obviously not high tech...

    GMT900 ( 07-13 Tahoe/Suburban )?

Very good summation of the pros and cons from an overlanding standpoint. Our 2015 Suburban is even more visibility restricted since they raised the beltline and made the glass smaller. It appears smaller inside because there is less ambient light, not sure if it actually is though. A truck front...

    Jack's 2007 Chevy Build

I felt the same way, pressure should have little to do with it. I can't imagine you would get any kind of belt squirm or deflection on a new tire. Maybe do a search and see if folks are reporting any issues.

    Jack's 2007 Chevy Build

Jack, We had a flat on a buddy's F350, the spare was only inflated to about 40 lbs. When we installed the spare it hopped and acted funny too, once we inflated it to around 65ibs it smoothed out. Don't remember what tires he had, but I think they were Coopers. Actually going to his place for...

    Jack's 2007 Chevy Build

I have spent some time following your Pathfinder build up, I may have uploaded from your thread. I saw it and thought "how cool is that!" And showed it to my wife. She is quite the baker and was very impressed as well. Tell your girlfriend she has fans!

Does ownership automatically enroll us as members? Kind of funny you came up with this, I was born in a town that had a large Mafia population during Prohibition.

My what to buy thread. Please help!

My brother in law has a similar lift on his 2004 Suburban and runs somewhere around 34" or 35" tires. I've replaced 3 unit bearings in the front end for him. 2 rights and one left. Not sure about his wheel offset, but he is a tightwad and will not buy quality replacement bearings. I cheat a...
