Is regearing a Dana 35 really a waste of $$$?

Good luck finding a TJ Dana 44 in a junkyard. I had a Dana 44 built with 33 spline alloy axles and a Detroit Softlocker. My TJ is a stick. It is perfectly doable on pavement, but you will notice it back there. I call it the "Detroit Shimmy" when it disengages and then reengages.

Is regearing a Dana 35 really a waste of $$$?

It depends on how much of a risk you're willing to take, and what the consequences of busting an axle in the middle of nowhere means to you. There's a reason they call them the "Turdy-five" axle. On my 98 TJ I just bit the bullet and had a Dana 44 built to my specs (33-spline alloy axles, 4.88...

Google still shows them at $329.00. For some reason you're not wanting to share this website with the rest of us. I'm still respectfully calling BS. Post the link to these heavily discounted Maxtrax in the USA ($200 - 250) and I will post an apology for doubting you (with emojis).

Tire Repair kits & Backwoods repairs

I've taken his class at least twice at the overland rallys. He is awesome. Driving me crazy I can't remember his name. I sent an email to the person who runs the overland rallies (it was Ray, but I don't know if he's still running them or not) to ask for his name (and website). And don't...

You got me there (y)- maybe I should have been more specific: TacoTuesday1 - show us a link for Maxtrax for sale in the United States for $200 - 250. TacoTuesday1 (profile says he's from AZ - I'm assuming AZ in the USA?) says (quote) "There are also large retailers that often have them for...

    shovel + axe mount

#4 for Quick Fists. I've got a shovel mounted on the back of my roof rack with them, and another pair of Quick Fists mounted on the side of the roof rack for an axe if I'm not taking the trailer (which has a larger shovel and axe mounted to it with Quick Fists).

Thinking about scratch building a trailer- am I crazy?

Here you go - build one off a Harbor Freight type trailer frame. Here's a thread I started when I built mine. It is long, but it has everything in there you need to build what the OP was describing he wanted...

I made my point initially. Please review my original post linked below. https://forum.expeditionportal.com/threads/traction-board-recommendations.238273/#post-3123783 What part of it did you not understand? Maxtrax are considered the gold standard, but not everyone can afford or needs the...

    Traction Board Recommendations

Max Trax are the gold standard for traction boards. But they're not cheap - I think they're up to $325/pair now (and I would want four of them, so $650 for two pair). If I was going to be out for months and months, they'd be my go-to. However, I'm not. I'm maybe a couple weeks in the summer...

    TJ as road trip/overlander?

I totally agree - too many folks think you have to have everything bigger and better. And truthfully, I probably didn't use over 75 - 80% of what I had packed in or on the trailer. A lot of stuff I bring is just because I can (there's so much you can put inside even a little 4' trailer). And...

    TJ as road trip/overlander?

Back to the original question.... I just came back from a 3500-mile three-week overland trip. We did the IDBDR, then came down south and picked up the Pacific Ocean Spur ("POS") portion of the TAT and took it to the Pacific Ocean (figure the POS is going from the east border of OR to the...

This is what I'm running in my Jeep TJ - a BTECH UV 25x2. It is mounted on top of my CB using a spare CB mount I had sitting around. Small, dual band, non-detachable face, has a cooling fan. Inexpensive. Will also transmit and receive GMRS frequencies. Link: UV-25X2 - BaoFeng Tech...
