89 Isuzu Trooper Expedition Build Suggestions

You still can run into problems turning with an autolocker on the front. With manual hubs you can always unlock one side to make turns if it wants to stay locked, but that can be a bit of a pain hopping in and out constantly. An ARB would be the perfect compromise being selectable, but a lot...

Very cool (and ambitious) trip! I think it is a really unique idea to use a WRX, although I would think that route planning would be critical, just because of ground clearance (like Graham said). I still think you could pick a pretty cool route. I don't know a whole lot about WRX's (or...

Suzuki Owners; Let's see your ExPo Trucks

Nice Sammy - looks like it is in great shape. Is that your old-school Chrysler Laser the next space over? Can't remember the last time I saw one of those...

    trooper trail shots

My sis was in town this week, so we all loaded up the Trooper and did a little exploring in the desert. Mostly trails, but I did find a few fun parts. Took a few shots:

moo - how do you like that ARB locker? I gotta save up my pennies, but that is high on my to-do list (since there are no mechanically selectable lockers available). And thanks for the pics robert - I've been looking for pics of 255/85's forever, and never found anything with enough detail to...

Trooper future for North American owners

Are they really getting out for good? I just figured they would keep selling re-badged pickup trucks to fleets as long as they could turn a buck or two. The good thing is that they sold a lot of Troopers over the years, so rebuildable parts - alternators, starters, even engines should be...

    Different Approach...

Either one would be fun - obviously the M5 would be more comfortable, but I think the Lotus would be more of an adventure. I've always wanted one of those, and with the Toyota motor, reliability shouldn't be a problem. Also like the idea of the S2000 or a Miata - anything that is going to be...

Where to purchase 3/4" Shackles WLL 6.5tons

I usually get mine from these guys: http://www.4by4connection.com/drings.html Bright orange, too! :26_7_2: :26_7_2: to Adam's deal on the Fastenals - that's a bargain

Good expedition platform for a rookie?

That is one stong dude, to hold up that trooper like that! Heh heh - the Troop is a great choice if you can find one that has low enough miles - they have a good amount of room and are small enough to get by on tight trails, and they can fit 32's without a lift, and 33's with a 1.5" lift.

    WTB: Laptop ASAP

If you find something you like on that DFS site - I found this coupon code on my favorite deals website - $50 off, not bad at all! Now I'm trying to justify needing a small laptop to mount in the truck! I haven't tried it to confirm if it works. "Dell Financial Services has new Coupons - $50...

    WTB: Laptop ASAP

Check out the Dell Financial Services site, too. Almost all their stuff is business-class stuff - Latitudes, Precisions, etc. All off lease, so they are a generation old, but usually good prices. http://www.dfsdirectsales.com

Isuzu Trooper Oil consumption possible fix or at least an improvement

I've only ever seen the 15w-40 for the conventional and the 5w-40 in synthetic, so I guess that is all they make. I've always been able to find it at Wal Mart - last month I got the synthetic for my bike, and it was $22 for a gallon (it used to be 18, which was a rockin' deal for synth). There...

Isuzu Trooper Oil consumption possible fix or at least an improvement

From what I understand, the problem is the design of the rings themselves - the drainback holes get partially clogged up and that forces some oil up into the combustion chamber - and some of the oil gets burned off. Supposedly, Isuzu improved the design later in the run of engines, but my 2002...

    Roof rack at Sportsmanguide

Front is slightly different design than the Coleman, but it looks very similar, if the height is the same, then it should work - anybody know for sure if it is compatible? I'd love to have the extansion, the Coleman rack is great, but it does look a little small on top of my Trooper...

    Inc's Trooper Mod Thread

Yup! I wanted TOD for the exact same reason as Bill, and ended up with the same opinion. It is ok for wet roads and light snow, but get it into some soft sand, and it just gets confused and bothersome (can't imagine how it might tackle some slippery rocks). I have all the parts to do the TOD...

    1997 Isuzu Trooper questions

A Trooper, a bike, and a dirt road - does that look like the best day ever, or what? That front plate is pretty stout - the service manual has it listed as a lifting point for the entire front end, and it doesn't bend when you do, so I'd imagine it would take a pretty good lick. The 3.5L will...

    Offroad-Adventure-Travel.com Suburban Build

Awesome looking 'burban - fab work is incredible! So before the axle swap, were you just running the body lift and the 35's, or had you done a suspension lift, too? Just curious because I know somebody thinking of getting rid of their Suburban diesel (it is same body as yours, but a non-turbo...

    Isuzu news flash

Definitely call Matt if you are interested - he would be able to answer questions. I also don't know what the benefit of the locker would be if you already have the G80 limited slip in the Troop. The aussie locker is stronger than the clutch-pack type in the LSD, I would think? From what I...
