Prepping a defender 130 for around the world..

Question: what is the use of a fender protection plate? I see those on many Land Rovers, but see absolutely no use for them. Possibly a protection plate on the bonnet, in order to walk on it as you get something in your roof-rack but on a fender?

    Round the World Adventurers

Hi Amy and Richard, Great decision that you made! Aside from the route, next big decision is the type of vehicle you select. Based on my experience (travelling for 15 months in roof tents) I would suggest for a RTW trip, that you select a vehicle with a closed cabin (or a van). Land...

Hi Shayne, Nice project and built! It should give you a nice rig to travel to many places. I shall be following your trip afterwards. Having "lived" in roof tents for 15 months of travel, for my current vehicle (planning a Round The World trip) I decided that I wanted a closed cabin. - I...

Suggestions for making my Series III ready for overlanding?

Hi Tom, Good spotting, good question. Negative, for many years I had a PTO winch made by "Fairy" in the UK. Good part is that it has a huge drum and I had almost 50 meters of steel cable (the norm in those days) on it. Used it a number of times to pull myself out of mud holes and/or to pull...

Suggestions for making my Series III ready for overlanding?

Oops, Forgot to specify that even with a winch, one needs to have a Hi-Lift jack and "sand ladders". Those two items are the most important kit when venturing off-road!
