Heavy sliders not smart for long-term overlanding?

Beyond the obvious protection that sliders offer. Sliders also provide a good lift point for a Hi-Lift Jack if you're needing to get a wheel up to stack rocks. I've found mine helpful a number of times for protection, once when a wheel slipped on a muddy (wet clay) slight incline sliding the...

    DIY Automatic Tire Inflator

I really like that twist. That may become version 2. I consider 4 tires but that started to feel like an octopus attacking the truck with a mess of hoses to trip over in the dark... but two at a time sounds appealing and goes with my general philosophy of less is more. Thanks for that...

    DIY Automatic Tire Inflator

@1stDeuce thank you. I know that regular chuck with the clip-on lever... I've broken the leaver on a couple which drove me to find a better one. I like your "different execution". And you're right it doesn't slow down my little pump since their is no tank to draw from it just takes a long...

    DIY Automatic Tire Inflator

@bpd53 That was a big driver for this... I'd finish airing up... then have to around inspect my truck and make sure nothing rattled loose or pull sticks and stuff from the undercarriage. I wanted to do both at the same time and this gives me that ability.

    DIY Automatic Tire Inflator

When most of us leave the pavement we air down a little to make the ride more comfortable and gain traction. But I hate to air back up when the pavement returns because it always seems to be muddy, cold, or dark and sitting next to the tires while they inflate lacks entertainment value. After...

For video I use final cut pro cause well I'm a Mac guy. . For images / photo editing, I highly recommend GIMP (gnu image manipulation program). This is open source freeware and one of the best image editing programs i've used bar none. it is available for Windows, Mac and Linux. The only...

The Critical (constructive) Feedback Wanted on Videos Thread

Help wanted! The genre of overland adventure films (videos) is different then most other genres. Part documentary, part entertainment, part who knows what... and there are not a lot places to get constructive feedback as all of us try to hone our craft (hobby) of sharing with the world what...

What are you using for a coffee maker and coffee brand when camping/overlanding?

Well corey looks like you sucked the java juice out of my chorizo thread :-) I do like the taste and ease of using a french press on the trail. Took a while to figure out the right number of hand fulls of ground to put in but I managed. I've even managed to figure out how to make clean up...

    still the most importan meal...

With a good view... you got that right Brother! I didn't have much luck getting good results with a Moka Pot years back when i tried... I'm sure it was user error. It might be time to see if this old dog can in fact learn a new trick.

    still the most importan meal...

mmmmm. yes coffee.... Camp coffee is always the best. After years of experimenting and dozens of fails, we've found the best way is to brew a cup of warm, aromatic, roasted caffeine love is with a french press. What is your secrete?

    still the most importan meal...

Don't hate the chorizo... hate the metabolism :-) and I have used a couple of Vegi Chorizo concoctions that have turned out really pretty good.. it is really about the spicy goo that makes it special. it tends to be my guilty overland pleasure day one or two... after day two it tends to be...

I love camp breakfast. it is the one meal I'm not cooking in the dark... yea I'm not an early riser. My go to is chorizo and eggs... Hevos Ranchero... Plain or wrapped in a tortilla with cheese. Simple to make and so damn good. I swear magic happens and they become cholesterol free when...

Steens Overland Adventure - SE Oregon

The Steens Mount area in the southeast corner of Oregon's high desert is amazing. The United States Congress designated the Steens Mountain Wilderness in 2000 and it now has over 170,200 acres. This is one of the last places in the USA where you can find wild mustang, deer, antelope and big...

    official Huevo Ranchero recipe thread

So on an overland adventure, a camping breakfast of eggs and chorizo sausage is my idea of living the dream. Sure there are more healthy choices but is there a better overland breakfast than eggs and cheap spicy sausage meat like substance? Just about every culture has a take on this (eggs and...
