    Mid-size vs Full-size truck setup

Raptors will get you there quick but with a soft sprung suspension geared towards desert racing, it lacks payload. No way I’d put a camper back there. Maybe a lightweight GFC. But that’s tight for a family.

    Mid-size vs Full-size truck setup

@jaywo I’d set your alert to nationwide. Not a big deal to fly somewhere to pick up a new truck. Road trip in your new rig is fun! Also consider getting something like a Lariat for a heavy discount, then getting some nice suspension (Icon, King) which will ride 500% better than stock Tremor...

Looking for recommendations on a family hauler/tow rig/occasional camp vehicle

I’d add a 2nd gen Sequoia to the mix. AWD/4WD, nice engine, decent room inside. And the cool roll down rear hatch window. I see 08-12 models going for around your price range with low-ish miles.

    Mid-size vs Full-size truck setup

My kids would be jealous of your kids 😆 All they get is an REI tent with a partially busted zipper.

    Steel wheel questions

I’ve run 235/85/16’s in LR E (on a 2001 Tacoma). Just lower the pressure a bit. No big deal.

    Steel wheel questions

I’ve tested several rims from Tacoma’s and 4Runners from that era and they’ve all got the same backspacing/offset. I’d just get whatever is cheaper and in best condition. Or just get some Pro Comp steel rims for cheap.

Ram Hemi guys; fuel tank capacity woes

Sounds like it. With 5-gallons left, probably 2-3 gallons to get you where you need with the rest of that gas keeping the fuel pump cool.

OBs and OBWs: Outback, Outback Wilderness

We had a 2013 OB that we loved. It took us on a lot of adventures from Utah to Mexico and all in between. It was very roomy for our family of 4 and fit a ton of cargo inside. I would have kept it to mod, but the only thing I wish it had was low range. Some of of the places I love to go, 4lo is...

Help with first build for my 2011 Tundra

Are you sure about the payload number? Brochure number is usually way different than actual. Look in your drivers door jamb. There should be a sticker with the payload number.

    Gladiator - Good/Bad?

Yes, Ecoboost is a towing champ. Especially at elevation. Both my 2.7 and now 3.5 towed/tows great. Much much better than a friend’s ecodiesel Ram.

Thoughts for an Overlander in today's market? Suggestions?

I’m not being facetious but given the criteria: - Not rock crawling but “reasonable” 4wd trails - Pulling a 2k lb trailer - Decent MPG (>14mpg) highway I’m trying to think of a vehicle that will NOT work. Anything from a Subaru Forester to Honda Passport to a Bronco to a 4Runner. Or any of the...

    Gladiator - Good/Bad?

Bro, kids in car seats? Towing 5500lbs? Skip the midsize and get the HD. Guaranteed you’ll regret it on your first trip out with the Gladiator.

Who is running 40+ inch tires?

I’ve never run 40’s. But I’d certainly give heed to this guy who’s run them on more trucks than a Tirerack test driver

Offroad capability of full size truck

You must be new here. Overloading Builds are aplenty here.

Offroad capability of full size truck

Sounds like that would work. But man, for a first full-size truck, and camper, seems like a ton of money and time. Personally, I’d get the truck, get a (used?) FWC slide-in and try that out for a year. Then get a custom at that point, if that’s even what you want at that point.

Offroad capability of full size truck

Nothing really to add. But consider the balance between cargo/camper space vs cabin space. My wife likes to recline back and rest on some long drives. I do the same, if we’re taking shifts driving. Harder to do in a regular cab vs access or crew cab. To me, an ideal 2-up travel rig would be...

Anyone go from LC to Wrangler?

I’ve had both 100-series and a Wrangler (6MT). Both had issues but none major. If you can make the space work, the Jeep offers top down fun like nothing else. A video I recently watched:

    I'm BACK!!! 2023 F-250 Tremor build

I’ve been wanting to head to TX or FL for some hog hunting. I’m more of a wheel gun aficionado so I’d take my GP100. By the way, you said “opening weekend.” I thought the “season” was year-round??

Tire size question for stock 2019 4Runner owners w/ 20inch rims.

I’d stick to the stock 245/60/20 size. Won’t have much MPG hit. Won’t feel power loss. Plenty of options available. But what I would suggest is picking up a set of take offs from TRD or even SR5’s. They can be had for real cheap and you get more sidewall even on stock sized tires.

is the 1st gen tundra one of the best platforms

I’m sure they’re slightly narrower than 2nd gen and current trucks. Then again, the full-size trucks back then seemed like they were all narrower than today’s trucks as well. But back to 1st gen’s, I don’t know if I’ve been on a trail where a 1st gen would fit while a current full-size...
