    Labrador Loop

I feel for you about that rock damage. I drove from Edmonton to Inuvik and back a few years ago and that 1500km return Dempster gravel highway took it's toll. The truck was throwing rocks at my trailer and the trailer was throwing them back at my truck. So much paint was stripped off the...

    Labrador Loop

I enjoyed the photos and trip report. Thanks for posting. This is certainly on my list of routes to explore. Being that I live on the west coast it will be one hell of a trip when I finally get around to it. I discovered a jerry can rule in a ferry line as well. It was a ferry between...

    Rookies on the Rubicon

I've had the same thought many times. The truth is though, the greater the challenge, the greater the reward. That reward being memories, knowledge, experience, personal growth, etc, etc. One of my favourite sayings is "Trying is the first step to failure" (-The Simpsons.) I use it...

Vendor Review: Mross Import / Unimog

I met Hans a year or so ago. He's quite a character. Definitely a no nonsense kind of guy!

Northbound, a very long drive to the end of the Mackenzie Valley winter only road.

Well, after five months in the shop my wife finally has her truck back. I never dreamed it would take that long. In fairness to the body shop they had 95% of the work done after a month but fixing the Line-X on the front bumper turned into an ordeal for them. It seems in this part of the...

Exploring BC's Fraser Canyon & Nahatlatch Valley

Nice! Thanks for posting. I enjoyed the video. I spent a weekend up at Nahatlatch a few years ago. It is beautiful up there. We took a FSR that connected up to the Harrison east road on the way back. It was very scenic too. Russ.

Northbound, a very long drive to the end of the Mackenzie Valley winter only road.

David, I certainly don't regret the journey despite the unfortunate event and will dominate my memory of it. I guess the biggest lesson learned would be that even when you don't believe you are taking a significant risk conditions can change quickly. The road was relatively straight and flat...

Northbound, a very long drive to the end of the Mackenzie Valley winter only road.

Thanks Stolenheron. The truck looked a lot better at the beginning of the trip than it did at the end. The pictures really don't show the damage well. The bird is actually a ptarmigan. I don't know how that dog got up there. We were just walking down the road and my friend happened to...

    Russian 6x6 Camper

Yes, it is but my eyes were drawn to the "Fuel consumption: 48 Ltr / 100 km" part. Ouch!

Northbound, a very long drive to the end of the Mackenzie Valley winter only road.

The winter roads have a 50km/hr speed limit in general with lower limits in places. 20km/hr on the approach to bridges, ice and otherwise. Road conditions are highly variable though so posted limits aren't always advisable. Ask me how I know! Yes, if I had been pulling my trailer at the time...

Northbound, a very long drive to the end of the Mackenzie Valley winter only road.

Until this past summer I spent the last 12 years living in Edmonton, Alberta working as a meteorologist forecasting the weather primarily for the Canadian Arctic. The north has always held a fascination for me and while I've been privileged enough to get to see a few parts of it over the years...

35 gal fuel tank group buy

The LongRanger tank for the Hilux requires modification to the mounts and to the rear top section of the tank as that part interferes with a crossmember of the Tacoma which is different from the Hilux. Shipping from Australia to Edmonton, AB was close to a grand. Had this other tank been...

    New (to me) U500

Wow Simon! I saw that you sold the 1550L a while back. Congratulations on the U500. It's beautiful... if you can call a U500 beautiful. I look forward to following your build when the time comes. Russ.
