    Allof75's 02 R50 Pathfinder Build- Still Alive!

Very nicely specced, that’s one of my favorite colors on ‘em. I’m curious about the 2.3’s longevity, I like the new rangers quite a bit.

Strange, do you have the 2.3 or 2.7? Definitely push for that sweet sweet warranty work to get it sorted. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Allof75's 02 R50 Pathfinder Build- Still Alive!

Sorry for the late reply, I don’t check my build much and have primarily been working on my Fords. The Pathy still has a blown front CV. That’s an interesting question. In my experience, I would recommend picking up an R50 BUT I think what I’d look for has changed over the years. If your...

    Allof75's 02 R50 Pathfinder Build- Still Alive!

My exasperation for this situation lead me to buy another daily- an 01 Ford Ranger Edge 2wd with the 3.0 Vulcan v6, Mazda 5 speed manual, and only 51k documented miles. I truly love my truck, and have no plans to sell it, the Pathy or Althea my 94 F150. The Ranger, which I’ve named Lady Bird...

    Allof75's 02 R50 Pathfinder Build- Still Alive!

Happy Thanksgiving all, An update on the Pathy- the transmission shop’s second rebuild attempt left me stranded twice more! Because their work is so pathetic I’ll put them on blast- DO NOT GO TO “Transmission Masters” in Santa Ana CA. The initial “rebuild” held for a week before...

    Allof75's 02 R50 Pathfinder Build- Still Alive!

Does anyone have a successful strategy for preventing rodent damage? I tried soaking the engine bay (where the rats are targeting) with peppermint extract and this was the result. Seems like the ultrasonic deterrents aren’t much more effective. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Allof75's 02 R50 Pathfinder Build- Still Alive!

I am happy to report, the Pathy is back on the road! Below is a picture of it resting at home just outside Santa Barbara. Now at 162,148 Im going to take the opportunity with the valve cover gasket replacement (Felpro) to replace the PCV valve (Beck Arnley), and intake plenum gaskets (Felpro)...

    Allof75's 02 R50 Pathfinder Build- Still Alive!

Tragedy struck- The factory Jatco RE4R01A made it 162,007 miles before giving up the ghost. Going about 70-75, my torque converter went out last week on 101. Does any one have suggestions on quality transmission rebuilders in SoCal (Orange, LA, or Santa Barbara Counties)? It’s had a slight...

    Allof75's 02 R50 Pathfinder Build- Still Alive!

Here’s a recent picture after finishing the brake service in Orange County when visiting family. I forgot to mention I’ve towed several trailers with the Pathy in the last year, mostly utility trailers under 2k lbs, a jet ski, and one empty car hauler that was its heaviest load at 3300 lbs. On...

    Allof75's 02 R50 Pathfinder Build- Still Alive!

Hi All, I hope this finds all of you well given the remarkably difficult circumstances of the past several years. I took some time away from the forums to focus on school (happy to report I graduated from UC Davis in March of 2020), and work. I browse this and NPORA for the project inspiration...

Interesting method on the transmission fluid, I may try to do the same. Nice and simple too, the pathy has the usual harsh 1-2 shift of that gen but seems to be a bit rougher lately. As far as pads, I've been having very good luck with my Hawk set.

    My 2001 Pathfinder (R50 ) mild/budget build

Out of curiousity, what mod undid the line originally, and what did it improve?

Excessive oil consumption in VQ 35 engine? R50 Pathy (followup)

Oil burning seems relatively common on this engine family, as far as I know there are some people who continue to add oil, but at some point it may lead to all sorts of serious issues for that particular motor. That said, you might be able to find a low mileage motor in a wrecker's somewhere at...

    My 2001 Pathfinder (R50 ) mild/budget build

Good lord it has been too long! Good to see it's doing fine, I'm loving the bumper setup. Good move on keeping it pretty light, that I know would be my issue with a bumper. Countless rigs go for bumpers that are needlessly heavy duty, and functionally no stronger, so good on you for avoiding...

Very smart solution, that seems like it'll be a great upgrade. I appreciate attempting to stay closer to stock width. I'm sure this information will be helpful for a few sad frontier owners with busted diffs. :sombrero:

The Lost Coast: Places I've Never Been in Northern California

Awesome! I'd love to go back and do the entire trail sometime, that sounds like a great trip you had. Such a beautiful area, the bad weather adds to the experience too I think.

The Lost Coast: Places I've Never Been in Northern California

Sounds about right, on this trip we didn't meet any Tule Elk, but on a previous run up there, we definitely did. Met them coming down to the ocean as a matter of fact, which was strange at first. Thank you! Thank you! I'm glad I could help. Thank you! For me being from somewhat near Tahoe...

The Lost Coast: Places I've Never Been in Northern California

The next morning we went for a quick hike up to a tree farm, a misty morning awaited. We said our goodbyes, and went through town one last time. We went to the Empire Mine State Historic Park, which was the most producing mine in California during its years in operation. Providing work...

The Lost Coast: Places I've Never Been in Northern California

Continuing down the grade, we passed one of the last gallows used in California. The unlucky recipient of its use could not have foreseen the outlaw of its use only two years after his execution. After a rather long and winding white-knuckle drive through ice and quickly piling snow into...
