Walking around lense.....What do you use?

If the camera has good resolution for walking around I use my 18-55. I've got an old Soligor 270 full manual, and it takes fantastic shots. I've got a 35-75 Nikon, that does alright. Honestly, unless I'm setting up a shot it's the 18-55. I have access to a 300mm, that pulls back to somewhere...

Bi-Polar Mental Excercise: Suburban or Grand Cherokee

For as little as you drive the truck you might as well get the larger, more fuel thirsty truck. The chevy's with the GenII TBI engines were very reliable. Keep in mind though, chevy trucks didn't start getting ABS until 1993, and that was rear only ABS. You will get differing opinions on...

    Truck for ALCAN parts run

A friend of mine is building up a project jeep, and the shipping on some of the larger parts is outrageous so we're going to make an adventure out of it. At the end of this semester, we're planning a parts run of epic proportions. Though a relative we can get free tickets (standby, but we'll...

    Basic wiring question

I'd wire it to the battery. Unless that's one beefy fuse block, you want the least resistance going to something like that. Also with a load like that I'd want it grounded strait to the - terminal. I've jerry-rigged small-ish inverters though stock circuits before, it has ended in lots of...

    My first project vehicle

I think the 9.25 is supposed to be similar to a a Dana 60. It's a C-Clip style I think. Not a full floating axle, but not I've never heard much bad about them, never heard much about at all actually.

Hella 500FF Driving and Fog Lights

Hella 500's don't have a good beam pattern. Hella 550's (rectangular) actually have a much better beam pattern. With 130w bulbs the 500 don't do as well as the 550's with 55w bulbs. The 500's are too shallow to have a good parabolic reflector imo.

    FG140 shifting gears

Have you tried double clutching? If a manual trans has bad syncros then they usually shift better when double clutched (like you have to do with a non-synchronized trans). 1) Put the clutch in 2) Drag the shifter into neutral 3) clutch out 4) Clutch in again 5) Next gear Repeat for next gear...

    Basic wiring question

When I need heavy gauge cable I usually go with welding cable. It's the stuff you use to wire up welders. It's cheap, the insulation seems to last indefinitely, and it has a really high strand count too, so it's very flexible, and cheap...

How should I attach truck cab to camper box?

Chevy's generally use tall c-channel frames (they look like this: [ ). If I was to try to connect a cab to a camper I'd box the frame under that area. weld some plate into the channel. Might work, might not, but it was certainly do some good.

Why not just get a smaller fridge, mount it, and then build a panel to hide the void space around it?

    ramcharger build

The 435 would be nice. That had one of the deepest, if not the deepest compound low ratio of all the popular truck transmission low ratios. The 4500 has a 5.61:1 granny gear, the 435 has something like a 7:1. The Borg Warner in my old ford has a 6.32:1, with stock height tires and 3.90 gear I...

    ramcharger build

My first truck (86 ram D250) had a 727 torqueflite, very solid and reliable. It had that cool whine you only get from strait cut planetary gears. I think the manuals had the NV3500, 3/4tons would have had the NV4500. I've never driven anything with either, but have heard that they are reliable...

Would like some help hashing out an electrical system.

Really? I just assumed that it was a square wave because it was so old. So it makes sin wave AC after all? Neat.

Would like some help hashing out an electrical system.

You could probably find a used one. With proper maintenance they can last a long time. One of my gensets I pulled out of an old hunting wagon (57 chevy schoolbus conversion). Briggs motor hadn't started in 40 years or so, cleaned it out primed it and it fired right up. Not that you'd want to...

Would like some help hashing out an electrical system.

I think wrcsixeight already mentioned that you'd want to run an isolator for that. I'd go with 8 gauge personally, make sure it's fused and isolated. If it's a solenoid isolator you can wire it up to only trigger when the key in the in run position. Just tap a key-on power circuit and run it...

Toyota 2RZ - FE engine problems

I don't have any experience with Toyota trucks, however the condition sounds like a temperature sensitive rich mixture condition. My immediate assumption would be any of the several types of sensors modern computer control vehicles usually have to read temperature to adjust the mixture...

    New offroading truck!

Yeah, most of the guys I know who own dodge pretty much just buy dodge. I suppose that should be an indication. Not all that surprising considering the cummins is a true medium-duty engine, unlike the Duramax or the PSD. I've also heard a lot of people say that dodge trucks are just the wrapper...

    New offroading truck!

I'll weigh in on this one I'd argue chevy has the best transmissions in all trucks heavier than 1/2 tons. The 4L60e has a bad tendency to grenade it's sunshell on the 1-2 shift because it's the weak link and the jump between ratios is too wide. I like 4L80e, good flat clutch driven...
