    Paging fellow Yetis...

Thanks guys. My daily driver is a bench seat Tundra that's mildly (and properly) lifted, has some good body/undercarriage protections etc. It does well on the wider trails and can handle some fairly aggressive washes/river beds. But its wide, and long, and again also my daily (need it for...

    Paging fellow Yetis...

Hello all. I am looking for a project. I need a hobby and I really want to start wrenching again (been 20 years since I last built anything). No rush here... want to do this right from the get go. Short term goal is to run what the usual rags and books would rate as "hard" desert narrow day...

    8 Raptors take on The Mojave Road - Jan 7 & 8 2012

At the south end of Soda Lake is Traveler's Monument. The tradition is that you grab a small rock from somewhere along the lake's border, and drop it off at this spot. Doing so earns you the right to climb the pile and view the plaque at its center. Can't tell ya what it says though... that's...

    8 Raptors take on The Mojave Road - Jan 7 & 8 2012

From there it was over Ceder Canyon (the high point of the trip, cresting at 5k feet), across Kelso-Cima Road, and into Mojave Camp, the final stop and camp spot for the night. We settled in and bundled up as the 35mph winds blew everything and anything every which way. The...

    8 Raptors take on The Mojave Road - Jan 7 & 8 2012

So with the oops for the trip out of the way, we carried on to the Well, had lunch and spent some time exploring. After lunch, we made our way thru the Joshua Tree Forest, stopping at the railroad remnants and Rock Spring, the largest watering hole on the Road...

    8 Raptors take on The Mojave Road - Jan 7 & 8 2012

For a thousand years, the Mojave Road served as an important trade route and thoroughfare for Native Americans, Spanish missionaries, explorers, colonizers and settlers. On January 7 and 8 2012, the Road's history of peace calm and quiet was shattered by a raging horde of eight fire breathing...

Death Valley Nov 25-26 Trip Report. WARNING! Pic Heavy!

^^Definitely good news. They're adding a Raptor-specific TORSEN front locker (some derivative of the T2). Speculation has it that its a drop in for us original owners too, so that might be pretty darn cool. A front locker would have been mighty handy out there.

How Many Use FRS/GMRS Hand Helds

Hiya Sparky, yep we're totally on the same page. I too carry a couple FRS's just in case, and a HT 2M Ham radio too (just 'cause I'm paranoid like that). And I wouldn't say I'm into ham radio either, only really using it when off road. I chose it as an emergency measure since pretty much...

How Many Use FRS/GMRS Hand Helds

Yeah for better or worse, we use 'em. I'm usually the only one with a ham rig, so I've hacked my iComm IC-208H VHF/UHF to allow me to use to it instead of a handheld. I refuse to depend solely on those handhelds in the boonies.

Death Valley Nov 25-26 Trip Report. WARNING! Pic Heavy!

We had originally planned to spend the night there at the south end of Racetrack, but called an audible at the last minute; 'stoner had an event's schedule change on him and was moved to that night, and OUTCAST & Jr loved Titus so much they wanted to hit it again in the morning to get it on...

Death Valley Nov 25-26 Trip Report. WARNING! Pic Heavy!

Well I'm happy to say another successful DV trip is in the books! This time it was myself and Betsy (my dog) in our Raptor, bstoner59 in his, and OUTCAST & his son OUTCAST Jr in theirs, joining us all the way from Louisiana! These two guys are hardfreakingcore! I think they said they figure...
