    Collection of Trailer Builds

Amazing build!! I built an extendable trailer rack for the RTT like yours and I want to incorporate struts to make extending easier. Right now I am using a large scissors jack, kind of a PITA. How long is the stroke on those gas struts and where did you get them from?

Telescoping Tent Trailer Rack with Scissor Jack Lift

It is right in the middle of the trailer floor. It is a 30" jack so it goes up in 1 push. If I used a 24" jack I would have had to pin it and do it in 2 lifts. That 30" jack is way bigger than I thought it would be. I will try to video the jack up process next time we go out in a couple weeks.

Telescoping Tent Trailer Rack with Scissor Jack Lift

So I take it the tape measure is the linear actuator? Looks pretty slick. Please post a video once it is up and running. How tall will it be once deployed?

Why so many negative YouTube videos about RTTs?

No disrespect taken. I don't mind putting the cover on yet. Maybe a year or 2 from now it will annoy me. What I don't get is how into speed and efficiency people are in their camp setups. I mean, we are camping after all. It is not a race, have a beverage and knock it out. So far I am not...

Why so many negative YouTube videos about RTTs?

I agree a RTT on a truck would not be ideal IMHO. Losing MPG, not being able to run down the river to fish, etc. would sour me on it really quick I think. BUT a RTT on a little adventure trailer is a winning combo in my opinion. WE LOVE OURS! Granted we got it for $1000 used from a buddy...

    Better Jacks for Stability?

Yep, our trailer had a serious case of the wobbles when I first built it. I added BAL style jacks in the rear, put blocks between the frame and axle when I get to camp to take the springs out of the equation, use chocks and it has helped a lot. I think next time I set it up I will leave it...

Telescoping Tent Trailer Rack with Scissor Jack Lift

So I have gotten the trailer out a few times now and I am impressed. Everything is working according to plan! The light weight ~ 1400lbs and lower profile in the slipstream of the truck make it a breeze to tow, the Tacoma doesn't even feel it. Set-up is pretty easy breezy and getting better...

Any need to secure (lock) RTT trailer when leave campsite?

I lock my trailer with a nice master lock tongue lock, a padlock on the normal hitch lock and a cheapy wheel lock on one of the wheels. I feel like they are there to keep the honest people honest. I'm very confident that this system is more than adequate while the trailer is parked at a...

    Adventure Trailer Maiden Voyage

Took the trailer out for its first adventure. Pull great behind the Tacoma. Reasonably stable in the extended position. Only problem was I had a few too many beers and busted my butt falling off the ladder in the middle of the night, OUCH THAT HURT! I am extremely please with how it turned out.

Telescoping Tent Trailer Rack with Scissor Jack Lift

Well the lift system works pretty well. No real binding, I just kind of jiggle the frame and it evens out. Really wouldn't change a thing. Would love to find some gas struts long enough, haven't been lucky yet.

New to Me 2008 Tacoma SR5 Double Cab Long bed 4x4

I have a bit of info about it in the DIY trailer section. About to do a write up on it. Basically a custom built 4x6 Carry-on, an extendable rack for the CVT tent, boxes, 270 awning, 12v solar, etc. Probably would have built it a bit different if I knew I would have had a Taco to pull it...

New to Me 2008 Tacoma SR5 Double Cab Long bed 4x4

So I built my family a lightweight adventure trailer thinking we would just pull it with my wife's Jeep Renegade. It became very obvious that the renegade was far from the ideal vehicle to pull a trailer. That combined with all the other outdoor activities we do (rafting, mtn. biking) it was...

What are some of the best places in Illinois for camping

Southern Illinois is far from the Chicagoland area but there are some really nice camping spots. Especially if you are looking to camp in February I would concentrate your efforts around Southern IL. Garden of the Gods is really neat.

    Stabilizing Jacks-Please help!

No my trailer does not have brakes. But yes, I noticed if I chocked the wheels it was WAY more stable so that will be part of the stabilization procedure for sure. My tongue jack is NOT rock solid, need to look into that a little.

    Stabilizing Jacks-Please help!

@NatersXJ6 Thanks for your response, some good advice there. Mine is far from rock solid. Full disclosure I am just starting to set up my jack system. Nothing is attached yet. The movement is most definitely in the jacks, the rack is pretty solid. If you watch the jacks as you shake the...

    Stabilizing Jacks-Please help!

My goal with the jacks is both leveling and stabilizing. Right now is is not stable whether the tires are on the ground or in the air.

Telescoping Tent Trailer Rack with Scissor Jack Lift

I forgot to update. Friday after work I pulled the trailer out of the garage and popped the top. SO EXCITING! Worked great. Can't wait for some warmer weather so we can take it out. This is about 10" lower than it needs to be for full annex deployment.

OHHHHH! Very interesting! I like that. Maybe not for $336, but I can make that myself. Thanks!
