I think it depends on the end use. If you're making something to place hot items on, no the bars aren't important. But since this was also intended to be used as a grill top for stove that could be positioned 10 different ways, it likely came in to play originally.

Something I wish was still around, CK-121 IGT Cast Iron Trivet. This was originally designed as part of the WG/GP integration system for the IGT in 2003. Your backpacking stove went underneath, and the gave you a sturdy cooking surface for heavier items. It was discontinued around 2007/2008...

For me it's the ignoring a second hand market. Like, these aren't Sneakers where some new color will be out in a month. There hasn't been a paper towel holder since THE paper towel holder. And they're selling for 5-10x the original price on the second hand market. How do they not look at that...

I'd imagine they're half. The only quarter unit item they designed was Japan only and as far as I know only available in 2017/18. It was discontinued pretty fast.

I could see two of the same side (like two right pieces) being combined to make a large sweeping right angle. Cap it with an IGT 4 unit at either end and you could have to whole work stations without stepping on one another.

We've been about 3-6mo behind Japan in terms of releases. I'm crossing my fingers there's still 2021 product to come for us. For example, the mesh chair/bench were just released here. But they were a summer product in Japan which makes way more sense.

Maybe true from a US perspective, but this has been their MO in Japan since the early 90s. Before that, lots of mountaineering gear. After that, fishing gear. They're pretty constantly evolving.

You could use it as a cup if you wanted. The 'clips' are little nubs on the internal layer that hold the can in place. They're down at the bottom though so they wouldn't have any impact on drinking from it.

I think the double burner is big for a 3 unit. And the Tembo Tusky Skottle takes up two units as well, so you wouldn't be able to run both at the same time. I would advocate for the 4 unit anyway, it's not that much larger dimensionally, but the extra unit of space gives a lot of flexibility...
