New Old Perfect Expedition Camper (NOPEC) - Transitioning a 1995 Kodiak Truck Camper Into A Newer Version

Once again, awesome write up with some very cool ideas, I look forward to the door repair as well. I've had a few old fiberglass sailboats and done some repairs, West Systems and their magazine Epoxyworks are great resources, as is "This Old Boat" by Don Casey. My first thought as to eliminate...

New Old Perfect Expedition Camper (NOPEC) - Transitioning a 1995 Kodiak Truck Camper Into A Newer Version

This is great! Thanks for putting this together, look forward to see how you managed the next part. I'd love to tear into mine further, winter sure puts a damper on camper work though it didn't stop you I guess.

2014 Express AWD cargo van PNW 4 season camper

Just read this whole thread over the course of the day, good stuff. Been looking at AWD Express lately and you've added to the push. Good friends Tim and Megan run the Yakima ski club lodge at White Pass, perhaps you know them? Been meaning to get out there and check out the mountain but hard...

[Build] Rebuilding a fiberglass high top

Well done! I built a few SUP boards in my garage, working with fiberglass is pretty cool. Don't have a van at the moment but thinking about one, raised roof is key but hard to find/expensive. I had thought of finding a conversion van and maybe making a pop up for part of the roof.

Nice to hear some confirmation the the converter wasn't doing anything useful. I just hook the battery up to a charger for a day or so before we leave. I too have minimal woodworking skills, but I still hack around with it. Hoping to build some boxes to mount to the ceiling a la SLO-250's...

Had never seen that style SMEV rayct77, and a deal at the $... have to bookmark that :) thanks regcabguy. Maybe there was something wrong with my converter? I know it hummed anytime plugged in, and it didn't charge the house battery. All it did as far as i could tell was convert to 12v to...

Yeah, I was stoked when a 6' camper popped up on CL and snapped it up. Figured they are rare enough and there are enough outdoor people here with tacomas or similar that the resale shoud be pretty easy if I ever want to sell. Of all the questionable build quality issues common truck campers...

Thanks Cummins_expo. I enjoyed yours and the other skamper threads so much, figured I should add my junk.

Those SMEV units are sweet, I would love one of those sink/stove combos, but $$$. Thanks shanz, we scored on the WA trip, sprinkled on once and some AM fog, but otherwise perfect weather (joked with our Seattle friends about all the rain propaganda to keep people away)

bob91yj In my checking out of other campers, I think there are many parts shared across many brands. Seems like a very inbred industry; sun-lite, skamper, palomino, real-lite, and more all seem to be the same camper with minor tweaks, all built with parts from the center of US RV mediocrity of...

Also made a quick disconnect for the battery and will place it outside the camper in the bed in front of the wheel well. Between that and removing stock water tank and 120-12 converter freed up space in the compartment in the front of the floor. Ready for the summer camping season! Upcoming...

Electrical Next up to tackle the sh!tshow the is an electrical system in the avg american RV. Pulled lots out: huge shore power 30 amp cord, converter (couldn't stand the hum when plugged in, seemed pointless [all to convert shore power to 12v and run 2 120v outlets? Not even charge house...

Winter and spring mods I have a hard time not tinkering with my stuff, so towards the end of the winter i pulled the skamper into the garage and started addressing some of the shortcomings I came across on our trip. The complete lack of useable counter space being a concern, especially with...

After years of lurking here and a few false starts ('77 Toyota Chinook resto, '97 GMC Safari conversion repair and upgrade), I found a 1991 Skamper 60S on craigslist locally for a good price and in good condition. It just so happened I was buying a new '13 Tacoma DCLB about this time and this...
