Experienced opinions and concerns on pop ups and canopy campers

I was a fairly early adopter of an OVRLND on my 2014 Sierra 5.5’ bed. I loved it! I built out the back quite a bit with electrical, fridge, benches, wrappon toilet etc. The downside was that my truck kinda started to suck at doing truck things due to the build out. If I left it bare inside it...

    2014 Sierra 1500 OVRLND camper

Haven’t logged in in ages! I replaced it with a 6.7 F350 Tremor. We’re in the market again for a camping solution and are looking hard at the Off Grid Trailers Expedition.

    2014 Sierra 1500 OVRLND camper

I actually sold it about 6 months ago. I really loved the truck, but it was struggling with new heavier towing duties… I work with the new owner and him and his family have been really enjoying it.

Should have my 350 tremor here in a couple months. To get LEDs you have to get the lariat ultimate package. Or black appearance package. I think they may be standard on KR and higher trims. Lots of folks over on tremor forum, do morimotos with excellent reviews.

    A Sign of Our Times…

Yup, ordered a new 6.7 350 Tremor back in Feb. I’ll be lucky to have it by Nov. But by ordering and waiting, you avoid the insane dealer markups.

    Upland Hunting - General

Yup, we do have ptarmigan. Not huge numbers on the road system, but I’ve taken a few over the years. Very icy this year though. Need crampons to get high right now. Ptarmigan is open til end of April so hopefully we get a thaw soon to go after em! Kyuss is def getting more fit for long days in...

OVRLND CAMPERS ONLY : Post your OVRLND Camper build here or a link to your build thread to inspire others!

I would recommend having Jay install from the get go. I’m very happy with mine, and frankly it would be a pain to install after it’s on the truck. Just my opinion.

My fan wiring was routed along the roof bars and down the rear lift mechanism. Redid it the routing with my insulation.

    This truck is unbelievable good

This are wild California Bighorn Sheep, not goats. A couple young rams with ewes to be specific. They’re a truly amazing and resilient critter in the sierras. Also delicious if one ever has the opportunity to hunt them.

    Upland Hunting - General

We don’t have what you’d call traditional upland hunting here in Kodiak. But my 7mo weimaraner Kyuss is becoming quite the champ at chasing bunnies and squirrels. Got a couple squirrels today. “Drop it” command still needs work. But I really have no idea what I’m doing, he’s young, the .22...

@mk216v Thank you for the numbers you’re working with. Interesting that your GVWR is 10,900. I’ve been researching over on tremor forum. Have some really good payload threads. 6.7 lariat tremor payload is between 3300 and 3400 with a 11,500 gvwr. I wonder if it’s the beefier springs on the...

@mk216v Funny you mention diesel. I would be perfectly happy with the 7.3 gasser and the increased payload it provides. Then my wife asks last night “what if we decide to get a bigger boat?”. We currently have a 22’ aluminum hardtop that’s about 6k lbs wet. I love the size for the salt and big...

@mk216v thank you for the detailed response! Excited to see the Aterra on your rig and others. I’m a couple years out from a new truck. And will Likely be selling my Sierra. But a flatbed on a F350 is what I’m looking towards. Roomier camper and can tow my boat better. Camper choice (of what’s...

Since you’ll likely be the first one around here to have an Aterra, do you plan to ever remove it from the truck? Any idea how much of a hassle it’s going to be? I also wonder if it could be mounted with fasguns to the jack brackets vice bolts thru the floor...

Anyone using an GMC AT4 or any other GM pickup for overlanding?

@Pete Walker IMO opinion it depends on whether you want diesel or gas. You’d likely be happy with either in a diesel that you plan to keep stock or slightly upsize tires. If gasser I’d choose the Ford these days. Having the options of a selectable rear locker as well as more favorable gearing...

One thing to mention regarding bed rugs in freezing climates. I trimmed out the flap section that goes between the bed and tailgate. I found it would get wet then freeze causing difficulty in closing/opening the tailgate.
