    2007 Grand Cherokee 3.0L 4x4 (WK)

That's a shame about the 4XGuard stuff being discontinued. I got the belly guard from them back in February. Might look at Steel Armadillo. I was eyeing some of their stuff around that time. Neat thing about them is that most of their armor pieces are also available in aluminum, which could save...

    2007 Grand Cherokee 3.0L 4x4 (WK)

Good to hear that the bumper took the hit well. For the OP: https://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/06-grand-cherokee-build.201640/ I haven't updated the thread in a while, but I've been out to the spillway at Disney/Langley in Oklahoma several times with this Jeep. Haven't done much...

Adventures in lifting a WK CRD

Great job on the lift. I was skeptical of the description, but it turned out well. How do you like your JBA A-arms? Did you drop them for the frankenlift? I keep waffling on getting them.

    Wondering??

Fair point, but I did this with the JK and still had electrical gremlins. Maybe two years?

    Which Jeep Model & Why?

I think the 3.8 was underatted, if anything. Not sophisticated by any means, but it was a good engine. I think the driveability of the early JKs was let down by the four speed transmission. A five speed would have made a world of difference to me.

    2005 TJ

Great Jeep! I feel your pain on the commute. It's a bit of a balancing act between off-road capability and long distance driving. I'm looking forward to seeing where you take this.

Air chuck keeps popping off valve stem?

Honestly, it's been long enough ago (2008-ish) that I can't remember what the air time was before I did the mod. It's possible the bigger tap performs better, but I couldn't say. Having taken the valve cover off the MV-50 a few times the exhaust port about matches the interior diameter of 1/4"...

Air chuck keeps popping off valve stem?

OK, so I've used all the chuck types that have been mentioned so far. I didn't like the screw-on that came with the MV-50, becuase there is that bit of air loss as you're taking it off. I went and tapped the MV-50 for 1/4" NPT and with a new air hose, replaced the screw-on type chuck with a...

Haha, maybe after the fact! I'll feel real good about the job after the fact.

    06 Grand Cherokee Build

Not in terms of overlanding. I did do some upgrades in the interior and it may be a good segue into all the changes I've done in there. While the exterior changes have been functional in some way, the inside is more aesthetically oriented. If I'm going to commute long distance or otherwise...

    Thinking about dropping the hi-lift

I second this. There is a reason these jacks have been in use and continue to be produced for as long as they have been. They are useful tools. Yes, there are a significant number of folks mounting them to their trucks with no intent or understanding of their use, but that does not diminish its...

    MaxTrax, are they worth it?

To some extent this is the free market in action. I suspect Maxtrax priced their entry into the traction board business too high to begin with. Their competitors came along and were able to undercut them significantly and still make a profit off of their knock-off boards. It might make sense for...

    MaxTrax, are they worth it?

I have to second the notion of cost vs. effectiveness in this kind of thing. To me the traction board is more of a handy first step in a recovery attempt, before more serious (and time consuming) measures are taken. The cost of the tool needs to be commensurate with its use. Any tool that is...

    Which Jeep Model & Why?

I can't comment on the new Cherokee's, but I currently have a WK Grand and did own a two-door JK for 8 years. As a daily commuter, go for the Grand Cherokee. The stock JK was not too bad for road manners, but the more you modify it from stock the more unpleasant it gets. Going to a genuine AT or...

    06 Grand Cherokee Build

I deleted the iArmor step brackets last week. I did some drilling on them to cinch them up to the pinch weld. I had intended to do some reinforcement on the opposite side of the weld, but it turns out the thing is pretty solid already. Next time I get out to Grand Lake, I'm going to get the jeep...

my (almost) homemade above-the-spare cargo rack

Great setup. I especially like the touch of adding the ball valve to the water can. Would make it real convenient to use, rather than having to haul the can up and down the rack.

    06 Grand Cherokee Build

Well, I had the Coopers installed on Monday. Cooper AT3 LTs in a 245/70R17. Slightly taller than the option tire for the 06 Grand and it fit nicely. I was a little worried about the upper post and thought I might have to trim it, but there's plenty of room. I also finished my first full tank...

    06 Grand Cherokee Build

Thanks, Kraqa. I started poking around mallcrawlin and I like the technical bent of the place. Definitely gonna lurk for a while there. Lots of good info and ideas so far. Meantime, I pulled the trigger on a set of all terrains. Waiting for shipping now and my street tires will be going to my...

    06 Grand Cherokee Build

Yep, these are road tires. They're rated at 740 on the UTQG for wear (should get about 70k out of them, have 40k on them right now), and they're great in snow/freezing rain. I've gone back and forth about switching to BFG A/T's, but I'm a little gun shy from the noise that my JK's KM2's...
