    1998 XJ @ 299,000 miles...still going strong

I will update this thread as it goes from 299,000 to 300,000 miles. 1998 Cherokee Sport, 4 door, 5 speed manual with the 4 liter straight 6. Currently runs great/strong and has no problem passing Ca smog checks. Previous owner gave us the maintaince records and he has changed the oil every 3000...

Morningstar SureSine - real life feedback request

That is a valid point and I had not given that any thought. The trailer is well insulated with airflow, but not cooled. Hummm...We tend to avoid the desert during the hotter months, but heat can build up. I will do some research on output vs heat. Thank you. Edit - just looked SureSine...

Morningstar SureSine - real life feedback request

Looking for some real life user feedback on a Morningstar SureSine. My Covid trailer project is approaching the end and I have planned all along to use the little 300 watt SureSine for our120VAC needs (mostly filling up air mattress's) but before spending the cash I thought I would see what...

Simple question about my Victron 75/15 charge controller

Ok - my thought was to get the SOC to 30/40AH and disconnect for storage. If just turning off the controller will suffice that makes my life easier and will give me a lot cleaner looking install. I have already have wired in a master battery cut off switch between the positive terminal and the...

Simple question about my Victron 75/15 charge controller

Putting together the power system in my 5x8 cargo/camping trailer and wondering if it is necessary to disconnect the controller from my roof panels when not charging my LiFeP04/or storing the trailer? I know I can turn off the charger via Bluetooth but I still get a blinking blue light. I am...

    LiFeP04 charge controller recommendations

I had somewhat of the same situation. Son has a 1998 Cherokee that we mounted a 100 Watt panel, run thru a smaller Victron controller/20AH Bioenno/Dometic compressor fridge. He is a Type 1 diabetic/swimmer and he keeps his food in there. Worked great in the California sun...not so well in the...

    1973 Sears Clamshell rebuild

I agree, but that lid is heavy. 100% steel and I rigged a folding lock that keeps it open at a set height. Easier and safer to adjust the panel. It is only charging a 40 ah LiFep04 battery and in use it takes only 3 to 4 hours of CA winter sun to top off overnight draw from my CFX 35.

    1973 Sears Clamshell rebuild

Me too. It was a fun project and it is a strong reminder of how things were built "back in the day". My "finished" post comes across like I was not happy with it. Bad choice of words on my behalf. We are very pleased and it will be a valued part of our stable. Having more fun with it today...

    1973 Sears Clamshell rebuild

Doesn't QUITE fit in the bed ;)...our thought was to be able to store the canopies/tents/cooking gear in the trailer and save the truck space for my Dometic CFX, food, clothing etc. As shown the trailer is about half full. Easy enough to add camping chairs and misc odd items on top of the gear...

    1973 Sears Clamshell rebuild

Ok - it is finished. Pretty happy with how it turned out, but thinking I should had just ponied up the cash and bought a 5 x 8 foot cargo trailer and built that out as a camping rig...Tows beautifully, holds more than I expected, but I can see us out growing it...

    1973 Sears Clamshell rebuild

Not much of an update, but a had a day of good weather and no wind so I painted the inside and outside of the top. Picture is not the best, but it is a "warm" grey with a bluish tint. Lessons learned: I am not a natural painter and also that the little dings and creases in the sheet metal...

Hummm..do the Titanium spork holders mount inside the tub or on the roof racks?

    1973 Sears Clamshell rebuild

Was able to knock off a couple of things on the "to do" list. I installed the fenders and spent 3 hours at the Ca DMV getting the trailer tagged with a VIN number, registering it in my name and getting CA permanent plates (which have to be renewed every 5 years ) This was the longest...

    1973 Sears Clamshell rebuild

I know! Not very adventurist of me. Cant do 35's since my truck only runs 33's...a on board desalination plant would be handy with the Ca beach camping that comprises most of our get a ways. In the meantime I will stick to my 4 Scepters full of water. Fenders, light kit and new 2 inch coupler...

    1973 Sears Clamshell rebuild

A few months ago I saw this on a local craigslist. I watched it for a month or two as the seller kept dropping the price. I sent him a nice email asking him that if he ever got to where $200 was acceptable to please let me know. Two weeks ago I got a email saying if I could be there in an hour...
