    Help Programming my FT-8800

Help me organize I’ve got some follow up questions to ask you guys. I’m a new ham, just got my license and bought an FT8800 as my first radio. I’ve also got the RT programing software and cable, and a copy of the ARRL Repeater Directory. I’m retired, and plan to travel the country, mostly...

    Durability of DCU shells?

I've just bought a 2012 F250 and I'm planning to put a DCU shell from either ARE or Century on the back. On a different forum I frequent, some body posted the following comment on them: "I have an ARE DCU on my Ram 2500. I also had one on my previous F350. I love them for working out of...

    Question for Ford SuperDuty owners

Howdy. I just got a 2012 F250. The stock tires seem to be 31's. For those of you that have gone bigger, how do you carry a matching spare? I guess I'm really wondering how big a spare tire you can fit in the stock underbed location? 32? 33? 35? (would be nice). Thanks. Regards John

Under bed mounted water tank/vs jerry cans

I believe that the RV people have discovered that water left sitting in a tank goes all funky if left unused long enough. Seems to me that it will be a lot easier to clean and even sterilize jerry cans. Just a thought . . . Regards John

    Foamboard to Metal?

Hi. I'm planning to do something very similar. Except I was thinking 1/8 inch plywood. How were you planning to attach the plywood to the metal ribs? Sheet metal screws? Pop rivets? Regards John

    Non-tacticle ccw

I'm so amused by the "tacti-cool look" that I occasionally wear a Hawaiian shirt with a pair of 5.11 pants just as a goof. I refer to it as my "Serious Operator Trying To Disguise Himself As A Non-Operator Disguise." A couple of suggestions . . . Dillon makes a really nice black nylon laptop...

Seeking a bit of sage advice!

I see no one has mentioned STUDDED snow tires. I'm 60 years old. Been driving through upstate New York winters for over 40 years now. I've had conventional front-engined, rear wheel drive cars, both with and without posi, rear engined cars, front-wheel drive cars, and one 4X4 truck. It...

    Tranny Flush

A follow up related question: Has Detroit switched over from petroleum based tranny fluid to synthetic tranny fluid? If so, when? (I assume it is probably different years for the different companies.) If not, and I wanted to switch over to something like, say, Mobil 1 Synthetic Tranny fluid...

    Ford Rear End Question

I'm in the process of looking around for a truck. Still doing a lot of research. According to the Wikipedia article on Ford SuperDuties, The one ton (350s) all come with Dana 60 front ends, but some of them have Dana 80 rears and some have a Sterling (Ford Corporate, I think) with a 10.5 inch...

Roof Rack Lights: need some help!

I'll throw in a couple of comments here. I'm told that painting your hood flat black helps a lot with not only eliminating glare from roof lights, but also from the bright sun during daylight. Obviously, this is not necessarily something that everybody is willing or able to do. Not every roof...

    Camping with Firearm-Post Bear Mauling

Hi Scott, I've read through the entire thread, and it's not clear to me what you are refering to when you write "at such a distance". How far away were you planning on shooting? Let's note that both the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in Alaska and the Canadian Department of Renewable...

    Armed Citizens Legal Defense Network

I'm just a member myself. I don't really know. But if I had to GUESS . . . I would guess they have to PAY the "Network officials" and "Network self-defense experts" who do this, as well as cover their expenses while they do it. How MUCH they pay them, I have no idea. I imagine that people...

    Armed Citizens Legal Defense Network

I just renewed my annual membership in the Armed Citizens' Legal Defense Network. On a whim, I checked to see if anyone had mentioned it here, and I didn't find anything on it, so I thought I would post something. It costs $85 a year to belong. Of that, 25%, or $21.25, goes into a special...

Help me buy a tactical shotgun!

I'm prepared to concede that there are exceptions to every rule. So consider my statement modified to read: "The AVERAGE shooter isn't going to hit a damn thing with them except by dumb luck!" I congratulate you on being that good with it. You're certainly better than I am. Uhm. John...

Help me buy a tactical shotgun!

Question: Do you hunt with a shotgun? Shoot Trap or Skeet? Under stress - like, oh, somebody trying to kill you - people sometimes "short stroke" a pump gun. That is, they don't run the slide ALL the way forward and back. This leads to a malfunction and an inoperable gun. People who...

    pistol decision - 9mm

I dry fired the Ruger when it first came out. Horrible trigger. Not impressed with the S&W M&P's trigger either. Spend some time on Grant Cunningham's website: www.grantcunningham.com He's a clockmaker turned revolversmith, probably the best guy still alive for tuning Colt Pythons (Now...

Reciever Mounted winch or hand winch

I have seen at least one picture - sorry, don't remember where - of a winch mounted to a flat steel plate. This plate had hook up points for a couple of chains - via D-shackles, and the chains were attached to the back bumper via the recovery points. Power was via extension cables plugged in...

Backup Camera in place of rear view mirror.

Uhhhm . . . . Ok. And you mount the forward camera where? Up on the roof? Down on the bumper? Pointed straight ahead or angled down? Forgive me, I'm still trying to visualize how this would work. Thanks. Regards John

Backup Camera in place of rear view mirror.

I've been following this thread with interest as I'm looking around for for such a set-up too. But I've been scratching my head and wondering why anyone would want/need a FRONT facing camera? Maybe I'm missing something. (Wouldn't be the first time.) Your reasons, please? Thanks. Regards John

    4510 Public Defender for concealed

Shotshells are designed to be fired in smoothbore barrels. When fired in a rifled barrel, it spins the wad and centrifugal force spreads the pattern to hell and gone. Tom Givens had a VERY negative review of the Taurus Judge in SWAT magazine a few months ago for that reason. These things are...
