'15 Frontier CC LWB, improvements for backcountry and roadtrips

2/0 or 2 "aught" wire is very large. You should only need 2 AWG for most winch applications. I have a 2013 CC Frontier shortbed and have a dual battery system setup with my battery box mounted in your exact location in the bed and under a shell. I ran my wire from the front battery down to...

What accessories requiring a 12v socket do you actually use?

Only the 12v phone charger. Everything else is usually a USB plug or I just need a regular AC three prong. Sometimes an Anderson plug.

Camp Tables - What are you using?

Depends on what sort of seat, but yes they can.

Only using fridge to make ice...?

Hahaha. Of course he is. Weird this forum doesn't highlight the OP when they make a response. At least that I could see. Been awhile since I've been on here.

Only using fridge to make ice...?

Sure, if you are only factoring in using some sort of cool pack and could use a set temp of 27F that would be different, but the OP seemed to want to make ice as well. I can't remember what temp I had to set my fridge down to for it to actually freeze ice cubes/bottles, but it was something...

Camp Tables - What are you using?

I would agree with the wind. Mine is not really fiddly, maybe if it was a bigger version it would be though.

Only using fridge to make ice...?

When my 35L Dometic CFX fridge is set to a temp that will freeze/make ice it uses 3-4 times the energy then it does when set a comfortable 37 degrees F. I think you will definitely find that it would be easier to just have a moderate sized fridge. The 35L-50L sized fridges seem small, but when...

Camp Tables - What are you using?

I use the ALPS aluminum roll top table. Really like it. Large enough to be useful, but light and small enough to store away really easily. Smaller than your standard cheapo folding camp chairs when stowed away...

Nissan Frontier as family expedition vehicle?

I am only speaking to the Frontier, but it's sales have been very high considering how long it has been the same truck. Sales over the past few years have been the highest they have literally ever been, beating out the first few years when it was brand new. Nissan is just coasting on a product...

Looking for insight regarding 250watt solar panels

So I have a solar powered workshop/cabin out on some property and use 270 watt panels. They are quite large. If your Ambulance has a nice square top roof you may be able to fit them up there. Since they are 30v panels you will either need to run a 24 volt system (which in a vehicle setting...

Nissan Frontier as family expedition vehicle?

I love my Frontier. In my opinion based on the comparison between Frontier and Tacoma you are getting more for your money with the Frontier. The backseats are cramped for adults but fine for children. Very comfortable to drive, better seating position than the Tacoma. Payload is standard...

12v outlets and solar controller in truck bed

Nice, really like that. Right now I am using the rubber interlocking tile with the carpeting on the top (stuff you can get from Home Depot) and that works pretty well, just doesn't look as nice as yours.

    Nissan builds a frontier

Probably because they were going to be replacing the shocks, tires, exc already. Only thing the Pro4x adds that can't be easily upgraded is the e-locker (which I am not saying is insignificant), but probably the reasoning to keep cost down as docwatson said.

12v outlets and solar controller in truck bed

Looks great man, very clean. I have a vaguely similar setup on my Frontier. DC-DC charger with battery in the bed and solar panel on the shell roof that also can feed into the Ctek DC-DC charger. I also didn't want to drill a hole in my cap for wires to run through I routed them down...

    Redarc vs Ctek

Absolutely. It just generally seems that most vehicles are not reaching a voltage that is conducive to efficient and effective charging of a deep cycle. You have/had a 600ah 12v battery in your vehicle? I have no doubt a vehicles alternator will charge that over enough time, but my goodness...

    Redarc vs Ctek

I can give some real world experience using both a voltage sensing relay and a Ctek DC-DC charger. I have Nissan Frontier and initially I just ran 4 gauge wire with a relay and that seemed fine at first but I soon realized that it was never fully charging the AGM 100ah battery I had in the...

Awnings on Truck Toppers. Pics? Suggestions?

For a short bed you may look at the Rhino Rack Dome 1300. It comes in at a little over 50" long if I remember correctly and then domes up and expands out which gives the footprint of a 4-5 foot awning but the actual protection of a 8 foot awning basically. I use one and like it, although I...

Dometic CFX 35 fridge testing and dual battery system setup (VSR vs Ctek).

Nowhere close to that. Not sure where that number comes from, as I saw that too on one of their sites. When it is actively cooling it uses a max of 3.5 amps in my testing. The listed average power draw is 0.77 amps per hour on the getawaeco.com.au website.

What do you use for a truck gun?

I've always romanticized the "truck gun", but in reality the gun that I actually keep in my truck is a Ruger LCP locked under the front seat. The other gun I sometimes bring is a VZ 2008. Has the folding stock, built like a freaking tank. Uses 7.62x39. Good 300 yard accuracy.
