2020 Overland Explorer Vehicles (OEV) CAMP-X pop-up slide-in pickup camper (renamed "Back Country" as of 2023)

Hey all, I’m in the middle of installing an inverter in my Camp X but can’t decide where to run and attach the ground wire. Any suggestions?

On the stairs topic, we used the Little Giant 3-step on a few trips and found it more trouble than it was worth. Nowhere easy to put it besides the floor inside the camper, which meant having to clean the feet of the ladder every time we went to stow it. Especially annoying to do when we were at...

I was wondering if mine just failed, but my camper isn’t even a year old and it was ordered from OEV, not a unit that was sitting on the lot. Who knows. Guess I’ll have to buy another.

It’s been pretty hot here (90+) and my LP alarm has been going off almost daily in the late afternoon. The camper has been closed up for a couple weeks save for the times I open it to reset the alarm and vent it out. Propane is turned off and no discernible leaks inside. I ended up...

@chadx Really curious what you have in mind truck and camper-wise.

1000W. I have a coil of cable at home that I bought for other wiring projects, along with a hydraulic lug crimper. I think the cable is 1/0 but I’ll have to check when I get home. I was debating about running it off the breaker but didn’t want to risk exceeding the rating.

Maybe I’m mistaken but isn’t the monitor shunt on the outside of the battery box, next to the breaker? I was going to run the negative straight to that, so only the positive would need to be addressed.

@MisterSmith how did you attach your inverter fuse to the wall? Epoxy? Now I’m thinking about putting a bus bar ahead of the positive cable running to the breaker, then attaching the inverter to the bus along with a fuse. It’d save the need to drill. Just need a short cable from the bus to the...

Thanks, Chad. I’ll definitely debur and put in a rubber grommet.

Gotcha. I had thought at least two of your three holes were factory. I debated about using a stepped bit but didn’t think I had enough room in the box to get that in with a drill or an impact driver. I was also a little worried about getting shavings on a connection and risking a short. Guess...

I was looking forward to installing my inverter today but ran into a huge snag. There’s only one hole running into the battery box and it’s completely filled with cable. No easy way to drill another hole. Really wish OEV would have put in another access point so I can actually use the inverter...

Haha, okay. I guess I might have brackets hiding somewhere that I didn’t see. Edit: found them. Duh.

For those of you with shower cubes mounted on the side, what kind of brackets did you use?

Oddly, the front on mine seems to have become more difficult to close over time. I really had to yank on it last time to close it. In a separate issue, one of my roof latches has quite a bit of rust blooming on it. Kind of surprised.

Erik at OEV told me he pulled a fan off the shelf and looked it over, and he couldn’t see how the water got in. That would be logical to me, too; who designs a fan with an avoidable water entry point? But Forest River put out a TSB for the fans, which my dealer found. I caulked them with Sika...

We nearly got a FWC until we dug more into the Camp-X. The price difference was painful but it obviously covers some significant differences. It’s been fun so far. A couple of issues but glad we made the choice.

Do you guys find OEV to be responsive to emails? I wrote them a week ago, no reply.

I just picked up my Camp-X last week and have leaks from both fans following rain. After talking with the dealer, it looks like the latest MaxxAir fans have two tabs that stick up on either side to attach a cowl. Those tabs have holes that go through the flange and allow water to penetrate. Mine...
