Q on H3 bulb and HID conversion: can I use a spacer under the bulb?

I'm trying to convert a set of PIAA 510 driving lights to HID. The PIAAs come with H3 bulbs, and I bought an H3 HID conversion kit from XenonDepot. The problem I am running into is that the H3 HID bulb is quite a bit longer than the PIAA halogen H3 bulb, and the tip of the HID bulb touches the...

PSA: good deal on Engo E9000 winch w/ synthetic line

I've been looking at winches casually for a few weeks, since I got an aftermarket bumper that accepts a winch. I wanted to keep the weight low, so was looking at synthetic rope -- but the cost is usually pretty high. Engo has decent reviews, esp. for the low cost. This vendor has been active...

Anyone here lifted their FJ Cruiser, and have the old springs laying around? I'd like to buy them. PM me. I need all 4 coil springs, but don't need the shocks. (posting it here instead of the classifieds, because I think it will get the attention of those who don't usually read through the...

Vinyl floor = more heat than carpet?

Not really sure where to put this thread... so I'll try here. For those who have owned both: do trucks with vinyl floors have more heat coming up into the cab than those with carpet? I know carpeted cabs have padding underneath the carpet, so there's more insulation for sound and heat there...

DIY vented battery box - what to use?

I'm going to install two 6V golf cart batteries in my truck camper, as the 12V battery it came with is marginal. The 12V battery is inside a cabinet inside the camper, and vented to the exterior in a box like this one: http://tweetys.com/largeboxcolonialwhiteandventkit.aspx The battery box has...

'99-06 GM rear bumper interchangeability - dually?

Anyone know if the SRW and DRW rear bumpers are interchangeable on GMC Sierra/ Chevy Silverado trucks in the 1999-2006 body style? I have a fairly rusty rear bumper on my SRW 3/4-ton, and found a "like new" one on craigslist, but from a DRW 1-ton. From google, it looks like it should bolt...

Wiring Q: camper to truck: simple Q from electrical ignoramus

I'm buying a Northstar truck camper to put in the bed of my GMC Sierra. The camper has a 7-way RV-type plug at its front end, to connect to the truck. The camper does not have taillights on it (i.e. it doesn't cover the truck's taillights), so I don't need to connect any turn signals, backup...

    Metal-framed pop-ups other than FWC/ATC ?

Does anyone know (or can direct me to a FAQ) which manufacturers made metal-framed pop-up truck campers, other than Four Wheel Campers and All Terrain Campers? I've seen mention of other ones over the years, but don't have a list of the manufacturers or models to search for. My inclination...
