    Homemade Roofracks.

I've had a few people PM me about how I mount this rack to the drip rails- I've attached a couple of pics that should help explain it. Anyone interested in how I did the fiberglass fairing can see the process here on the build thread...

    Homemade Roofracks.

Just to follow up on this post a bit- I've since built out a fiberglass fairing for the front of this DIY rack, and Raptor-Lined it. FWIW- it took me 3 liters of Raptor...

Pics of your VAN! Post up!

You're right of course.. But after two times I do hope you carry a bottle of shoe polish with you when you leave a vehicle unattended there so you can write your name or “Do not chop!” on your windshield. Reminds me of the surgeon's habit of writing “ do not remove” on...

    Homemade Roofracks.

Check out this thread I posted on using a motorcycle chain as a fully adjustable Jerry can mount. http://forum.expeditionportal.com/threads/176316-DIY-motorcycle-chain-Jerry-can-locking-mount

    Homemade Roofracks.

Well, it's not fair of me to pawn off all the crappy welds onto my kid, much of that mess is mine :smilies27 (like you said though, most are as good as the original Chinaman's welds and they at least had shielding gas). ` The metal in these is light, yes, but that is exactly what you want for a...

Pics of your VAN! Post up!

Ditto on that too, That is a similar rig to my Ford Tortuga bus and I look forward to seeing your work. (My project has been neglected lately due to buying a Jeep Commando that absorbs my time and money)

    Homemade Roofracks.

Well, I ordered a 42" curved light bar for the front, plan on dropping it down below the roofline on brackets in front of the top of the windshield (to keep as low a profile as possible in front) and then build a fiberglass wind/tree fairing back to the front of the rack. ` I plan a 3rd brake...

    Homemade Roofracks.

Here's one I'm working on this weekend, It's not for the Tortuga bus, but for a Jeep Commando that's stolen my passion for the time being... ` I'm a little premature in posting this because the pics will not do justice to the concept until you see it complete, but I was really blown away after...

    FOUND Vans For Sale!

Local but no affiliation. Ad says it's the only one of it's kind in North America, not sure if that's good or bad, but I'd like to see more of these available around here. Looks like a fun rig, and I'm intrigued by the WVO biodiesel kit. 1991 Mitsubishi Delica Super Exceed Camper - 4x4...

    FOUND Vans For Sale!

Time to get serious boys. 8 wheel drive, 4 wheel steering. Once I retire I'd love to dig into building out one of these into an RV. I imagine it as kind of a (Star-Wars) Jawa Sandcrawler. :sombrero: https://albuquerque.craigslist.org/cto/d/s-32-2-arff-airport-rescue/6306582788.html

    Building La Tortuga: 1983 Ford-Collins E350 4x4 ShortBus

Yeah, seems like the guard caps really just need to make it very difficult to remove the caps to siphon gas, and the chain strap just needs to secure it from a crack-head with a sledge or ax. Anyone willing to try and invest more effort then that is going to get your loot regardless, or end up...

    Building La Tortuga: 1983 Ford-Collins E350 4x4 ShortBus

Wired up my headlights, only to have them flicker on and off as if possessed by a poltergeist. After some research on the interweb, I'm pretty confident it's an issue with too much electricity being drawn through the switch. It's an apparent issue with older Fords, and an issue with people...

DIY- motorcycle chain Jerry-can locking mount

No worries, I didn't take it as criticism or mean to sound defensive. I was just highlighting that the version I made here is just a jumping off point to cooler stuff to be done with the idea. Having built this, I'm already getting the itch for version 2.0, but have way too many 1.0 projects in...

DIY- motorcycle chain Jerry-can locking mount

` Nice, I had the same idea for some side steps on my rig and will surely take your advice on those. Line-X (or liquid rubber) on the cinch chain would likely not allow my hook to cinch in every link for adjustable length like it does now. ` ` For sure, Would like even better to just have a...

DIY- motorcycle chain Jerry-can locking mount

` I do have lots of heat-shrink big enough to do this, but dismissed it because it limits how short I can cinch the chain. I had not thought of using a loose rubber (inner-tube) sleeve, which is a great idea and I'm going to try it. I'm not too concerned with the naked chain rubbing on the...

DIY- motorcycle chain Jerry-can locking mount

Have no fear, that's coming next in the form of metal covers over the fuel lids that the chain also clinches down when tightened. I'll post them on this thread when they're built, but should be a pretty simple and effective solution.

    Boomer the Quadravan 4x4 Camper

I've been on this site for 9 months, not sure how I'd gone this long without seeing this thread. Your work here is very inspirational for me as I continue a very similar build of a very similar 1980's Pathfinder E350, with a relatively similar skillset and toolset (with perhaps a one tier lower...

DIY- motorcycle chain Jerry-can locking mount

Thanks, that's a DIY as well (outlined in my build thread)- the miniature helmet I got through the internet. The rest is thanks to "Super-Sculpey" clay, it's a polymer clay that, once baked, is a hard machinable plastic. I can think of 100 different uses for that stuff on an expedition vehicle...
